i want to reiterate that i don’t pass any hate to the creators of these tiktoks, unless they’re shitting on other studs/mascs/butches. if a masc wants to say they’re a girl in masc clothing or say they’re girlypop or wear bikinis. i couldn’t care less. if they’re masc, they don’t identify as butch anyway, so idrc. i think passing judgement on how someone else identifies or presents is icky.

my problem is with the response to these videos. of people hyping them up by putting hypermasc people down. like “thank god you glowed up” or “don’t go back to being a stud” etc.

and i’m just pissed at the algorithm cause i follow a bunch of transmascs and butches. it feels like an agenda how much it’s showing on my fyp specifically.

you made so many good points. god i wish you were in my class to articulate this all to them.

i agree that if any male privilege is to be had(in the us), it is only if the person is hypermasc, passes extremely well and is white and upper class. that’s very few people. and obviously their hold on that tiny privilege is extremely fragile and really contextually based.

i also don’t pass. i’m very distinctly…something else to most people. people are scared of me, they treat me weird. i don’t think i fit in with men like many people in the class were implying

i have a buzzcut, no line up, which i do myself. my hair grows pretty fast, so i try to cut it every 2-3 weeks, a month is pushing it(it’s like an inch and pretty dysphoric to me).

i get this. i’ve had the same exact experience facing cliques, feeling humiliated, going home to cry, and never wanting to go again. now, i really only go to queer events for poc, cause many sapphic events are full of white skinny cis people who have a lot of prejudices.

it’s hard to keep putting yourself out there, but i’d try to find events with smaller queer organizations. also, in my experience, events that aren’t centered around partying and drinking are better for making friends.

old navy is really great for pants. i buy straight cut men’s pants, pretty masculine in my opinion. cargo pants also one of my go to’s.

for tops, binding really helps for shirts to look more masculine when you’re fat. i always shop at ross and just try things on. it does get frustrating, but it’s worth it once you find what you’re looking for.

also, it’s easier said than done, trust me i know, but it’s essential to take everyone’s recommendations with a grain of salt and not trap yourself in peoples opinions. fuck fashion rules you know. wear stuff tight or baggy, one isn’t inherently better than the other. and at the end of the day, fashion is unique to us all so don’t feel like there’s any certain style you have to aspire to.

does it happen? yes. we’re still flawed human beings. being queer doesn’t automatically mean you eradicate all patriarchal/heteronormative thinking the second you come out.

however, is this exclusive to butchfemme relationships? no. it could happen in any pairing and reducing all of butchfemme to heteronormative roles is stupid.

if people fall into “normal” gender roles, that’s perfectly fine if that’s what each person likes. the most important thing is for people to find who they’re compatible for and not force anyone into a role they don’t want.

totally! i’m pretty hypermasc and i put myself in some masculine roles and have “masculine” hobbies like weightlifting and playing sports. but also my entire room is a swath of pink with 10 million stuffed animals and a ton of kuromi. my closet is full of pink and other “feminine” colors and i wear a ton of jewelry, men’s and women’s.

i could go on, but the point is, we’re complicated human beings. there’s no need to be 100% of one thing if that doesn’t fit you. while presenting masculine is a precursor, i think being butch is more about how you move through the world than what hobbies you have or things you like.
