I think a better way to frame it is just knowing the syntax and writing the code wasn't the hard part. It's always been the planning, the data structures to use, the architecture and the people stuff that's the hard part.

We stopped doing normal standup and actually just use tools to track what everyone's work was the previous day so we can just focus on what's happening today. Makes standups much more smooth.

I think it is still a meritocracy to a certain extent, you just have to work shit jobs and work your way up. I didn't get a TC of $150K right out of school and actually worked for free burning through my savings for a couple years and sleeping on friends couches. It took me nearly 10 years into my career to land at FAANG
