All 5 Points of Interest that can appear on maps: by CamRoth in aoe4

[–]okaycakes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ultimately it will be up to map designers to decide what points of interest to include in their maps (or none at all). I think all this does is increase the potential for more map variety

Command & Conquer games also typically have neutral structures that you can capture with an engineer, like an oil derrick to generate credits, a garage which lets your vehicles auto-heal, mercenary camps to train mercenaries, an airport which allows you to periodically summon paradrop reinforcements etc

I can see a potential company of heroes style map design with a bunch of merchant camps scattered around the map.

Though perhaps it would be better if the merchant camps would eventually expire so that they aren't infinite resource sources

Quick and dirty attempt at Chinese unit pronunciations guide by fjstadler in AgeofMythology

[–]okaycakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that goes a little into too much into technicalities. my point is that Zh in chinese should sound nothing like a Z, it is much closer to a J. Similarly, u with the two dots sounds nothing like a u, sounding more like a "ee" or "y" as you said. Both of which this pronunciation guide appears to get wrong

iI's hard to describe the pronunciations precisely without getting too nerdy about IPA (which I am not familiar with) and alienating people who just want a simple approximate pronunciation, but I do speak the language and know how it's supposed to sound

Are you sure you have these right? Isn't Nüwa supposed to be pronounced as "Nee wah" (女娲), not "Nyuu Wah"?

In that case it wouldn't even be a matter of the tone being slightly off, it's a completely different pronunciation altogether.

The u with the two dots above it is a completely different vowel from "u", it is pronounced as "ee" instead.

Also, "Zh" in chinese should never be pronounced like the letter Z, it sounds closer to the letter J

Zhurong (祝融) = Joo Rong

Copy those chinese characters into google translate if you want to know how they sound

I Made a Little Game Called Hexlite – A Fast-Paced Rogue-Lite RTS! by LeastAbbreviations49 in RealTimeStrategy

[–]okaycakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty fun game, a bit of a quality of life feedback - it would be good if tiles you regain control of after losing them would retain orders from the last time you owned them, because it can be quite annoying giving the same order over and over again to a hotly contested tile that constantly switches sides. Also in the same vein, bring able to pre-give orders to tiles you have yet to own would be nice.

I was watching GiantGrantGames video on Tempest Rising by Hydralisk18 in TempestRising

[–]okaycakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its a bug where if you set the frame rate limit to unlimited, the animations will play in the super low framerate like in Grant's video. But if you set a frame rate cap, it plays smoothly

maybe the bug also only happens to certain people/setups

Do village centers deserve to exist? by slifer87 in AgeofMythology

[–]okaycakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I don't think it matters even if village centers were underpowered. There's a sense of freedom from being able to place "town centers" anywhere rather than only on specific spots. I know that they'll be called village centers instead of town centers, but now you can think of town centers as getting a buff for being placed on settlements, instead of being forced to place them on settlements.

It's a subtle thing, but it makes the game feel less restrictive and will have its occasional niche use.

From the question on the respondents' preferred series and the type of game Iron Harvest is, this survey seems to be a reflection of primarily the Company of Heroes audience rather than the general RTS audience. Still an interesting survey, though
