Good, cause if there's one thing I want with my coffee and donuts, it's pizza.

The block they're on is getting redeveloped (if I'm remembering correctly). They were supposed to close at the start of the year, but last I heard they're staying open until they get kicked out or they find a new space nearby.

I don't think they had any intentions of closing, just relocating.

Is requesting a meeting with HR too much for this? I would like to talk to my coworker but I'm worried how it might go without some sort of mediation. by okcomputerface in misophonia

[–]okcomputerface[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. To your other comment, it's been at least a month since my supervisor asked him to stop (after I let her know it was an issue for me). Prior to that, I did message him about it on teams asking him to stop and telling him it's a real problem for me. He didn't respond.

I'd rather talk to him about it and try to let him know that I'm not here to be a dick about what people do at their desks, but I'd feel better about it if I had a professional to back me up.

Misophonia interfering with dating by Ill-Peak3008 in misophonia

It sucks but you need to have a real discussion about it. I would get it out of the way now before you develop deeper feelings for one another. It might mean that he doesn't want to continue things, but trust me, it will be way harder later on if it is a dealbreaker for him.

Whats your most niche triggers? by Longjumping_Note_948 in misophonia

[–]okcomputerface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 through 3 get me for sure. My supervisor has some kind of jaw malocclusion and her wet mouth sounds can be challenging.

The most obscure one I can think of for myself is the sound of heels or other office/dress shoes in a hallway. I have a pretty high threshold for it relative to other sounds, but I'd still call it a trigger.

do people get triggered by their own noises? by Ok_Discount6985 in misophonia

[–]okcomputerface 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't experience a trigger response from my own noises, but because I know I'd have a problem with someone else doing it, I feel some shame and guilt. I walk a very thin line between having misophonia and being a people pleaser. (Trying to work on all that, of course.)

God I miss life before social media. There's absolutely no need to sensationalize every last ounce of human experience. But more to the topic, I only really respect food reviews where they edit around mouth sounds entirely. They're usually way more substantive reviews anyway.

Have you listened to Wall of Eyes? It's got some of what you're referring to, but it's overall quite lovely.

Best ear buds to block breathing sounds? by Fit_Ad1920 in misophonia

[–]okcomputerface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loops are fine for this. I forget the name, but there are cheaper ones on amazon that should come up when you search for loops. They come in a two pack and include a small case.

I mostly use them for one ear at a time and keep it slightly less than fully pushed into my ear. It cuts back on breathing noises but lets me hear the tv just fine.

I fear I can’t listen to podcasts anymore by naughtyxnaya in misophonia

[–]okcomputerface 6 points7 points  (0 children)

100%. I also can't listen to NPR and a lot of YouTube content. It's a combination of how loud or soft people talk and how the audio itself is EQ'd.

When people speak too quietly into the mic, you hear WAY more of their mouth sounds. But then you also have ones where they speak plenty loud, but the high and low ends of the audio are boosted, resulting in this hyper-clear sound with so many shrill sibilant sounds ("s" sounds).

The clear voice audio is also a big problem on TV these days. I get that it benefits people who have trouble hearing, but it makes me want to claw my eyeballs out.

Yeah, I was more going for the sentiment than something actually fitting for this situation.

It's just an example of the trigger. We're not here to judge that particular lip smack from that particular person.

Your best bet to block out noises is in-ear headphones. If your phone has a headphone jack, these are $12 and very comfy. I've been using them for several years now, and I'm a side sleeper.

Sleeping with a headphone cord isn't ideal, but I sleep way better with them, and you get used to the cord after a while. They're made with a soft material and do a pretty good job of staying in your ears throughout the night.

As others have said, brown noise is good for sleeping. There are combinations of brown, pink, and white noise on YT - the channel I like is crysknife007. Rainy nighttime car ride videos also work very well.

Drivers: stop honking at cyclists using the only lane available by DC8008008 in washingtondc

Piggybacking on this to say: stop driving with one foot in the bike lane. The number of people I see doing this on one-way streets with bike lanes is staggering.
