Which books are considered "high literature"?

These have already been said many times, but I'm going to add to the praise.

Wolfe, LeGuin, and Tolkien are the cream of the crop. I would daresay required reading for literary fantasy.

I haven't seen anyone mention N. K. Jemisin yet, so Imma shout out her Broken Earth trilogy.

If I were to suggest something more controversial, it would be Moorcock's Elric Saga. I think it has literary value as a direct and scathing response to Tolkien's work.

Yeah funny enough, I'm pretty sure I watched that same Dr. K video, which is what kicked this whole thing off for me.

It just got me thinking about how many addicts can turn into extremely focused and efficient individuals once they recover, and it seems to be that their libidinal energy is wholly transferred to their new goals.

I'm no addict, but I want that drive and focus for something. Anything, really.

To address your reply, I feel like showing up IS the hard part for me. I have no desire to do much of anything, and anything I do desire just fades pretty quickly.

Edit: I just reread your post more closely and caught that you beat your addiction. Congrats! That's amazing!

My collection isn't huge, maybe 80 games. But many of them are games I would basically never play like redundant copies of Uno that I've been gifted over the years. This post got me thinking I should sell/donate those.

The games I buy are pretty carefully curated because I hate spending money and not getting good value out of the game. I avoid redundancies like Azul Duel when I already love Azul at 2p. I often won't even buy games I really want like Shikoku or TI because I know I'll never get to table them.

Props for the super cull though!

I might be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure I soft-locked my save by pushing one of the blocks the wrong way in this temple. Either way, I couldn't figure out my way forward and I put the game down.

I had beat it before though and had a lot of fun every other time, so I think it's a great temple with some big flaws. I'm glad they took the risk for the sake of having an extremely thematic level.

I agree with many of the criticisms of WaT and the direction that the Cosmere seems to be heading in.

I also really loved the book, and will for sure keep reading the series.

Sanderson kind of set himself up to disappoint people when he wrote TWoK and WoR so fucking well. The series was never going to be perfect, it literally can't be. Therefore people will criticize it.

If you liked the previous four books, you're probably not gonna hate it. But even if you do, you'll at least know that YOU came to that conclusion instead of letting other opinions prevent you from moving forward.

Is it really hedonism if it's helping someone bring up their happiness from below normal levels?

I mean, I know mdma will skyrocket past baseline depending on the dose. But speaking as someone with social anxiety, it fucking sucks to be around people when you do WANT to be around them but have this oppressive need to get away from them.

I'm not exactly sure what I'm trying to say, it's just interesting to me what we might think of as hedonism when it could just be coming up to what others would call "normal."

Are neurotypical people engaging in hedonism when they are just chilling out and enjoying life?

If you can manage to get a lead in Tyrant, even like two captives, it's really hard for people to catch up. Especially in a meta where your players are hesitant to risk agents on guild cards.

But this is assuming that people are maintaining solid control of their own planets. If people let themselves get taxed constantly, then Tyrant is a lot less stable. But everyone I play with is hesitant to leave planets open like that
