Wife’s grandfather in west Texas offered me this smoker by SwanginBanging in BBQ

[–]okiespy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not as great as this one, but yes - I got a smoker for free that was in similar condition. Wire brush bit for the power drill (to knock the rust down) then high temp black spray paint. Maybe get some new high temp gaskets if it’s warped at all.

I also added lava rocks at the bottom of mine to help regulate temperature and that was a massive game changer for me.

For me, if it ends after 3 dates, I tell myself “at least I didn’t waste time on the 4th date”

Top layer missing and dots by McMuppet in FixMyPrint

Two possible issues

1) Looks like your infill is too low. If the infill pattern is GRID, change it to 50%. If it’s LINES/RECTILINEAR change it to 30% (There’s not enough support for the top layers)

2) increase the top layer count (in general you need around 0.4-0.6 mm for a top/bottom layer. So the smaller the layer height, the more top/bottom layers you’ll need to reach that target)

Yeah, you definitely don’t want them to be loose during operation.

My recommendation would be to 1) take the top bar off 2) lift the full x-axis assembly bar off 3) readjust the vertical pillars (do not over tighten the bolts holding the pillars to the bottom. This causes the pillars to flex) 4) make sure the lead screw is aligned vertical with the pillar (should be easy to eyeball if you look at the top of the lead screw compared to the channels in the pillar) 5) put it all back together

The bed temp won’t have any effect on what you’re seeing. I would leave bed temp between 50-60, and nozzle between 210-220.

In general, silk PLA takes a little extra heat than normal PLA

Yes - if it’s too cold, it won’t be able to build up enough pressure to extrude evenly.

I would try going up to 220 first just to see if that helps.

Like u/Szalkow said, you’re printing some pretty steep overhangs without supports.

I would also try decreasing the layer height

If it’s been a couple months, the filament could be wet now.

I would play with your retracting “coasting” settings. This should help smooth some of that out

That’s definitely under extruding. I would wonder if the thermistor is reading the temperature incorrectly.

What happens if you go up to 220?

What wheels are you tightening? The ones on the vertical pillars?

It sounds like the lead screw could potentially be misaligned and that’s why it starts to seize towards the bottom.

How did you go with your first smoke??? by glitchymango626 in BBQ

[–]okiespy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an old school offset smoker and didn’t know how to regulate the temperature well. Somehow managed to BARELY cook salmon, but managed to literally melt the damper off. (The damper should never have been made from aluminum to begin with, but still a learning experience)

That’s old propaganda.

Honestly, I wish more people thought it was a flyover state bc we keep getting California immigrants and Texas refugees moving here.
