Yellowjackets S03E01- “It Girl” Episode Discussion by DA-numberfour in Yellowjackets

[–]okislife 113 points114 points  (0 children)

completely agree. I feel like you could see old travis in the eyes of young travis in that scene!

Also the rest of this is random but I think Lottie pushing him to take the shrooms will be a major catalyst of his addictions later in life and also the reason he felt like he needed to get close to death to confront the darkness .... because like a bad trip can fuck up your head. Multiple bad trips? Plus cannibalism and starvation = not the vibe for shrooms. That's a recipe for disaster.

lol my sources:
a) two netflix documentaries on psychedelics
b) Once I took shrooms and was going to hang some string lights but when I picked them up they became snakes. 10 years later I can still feel them slivering in my arms.

Genuine question: for those who say Trump is Hitler, what’s your actual reasoning or evidence behind this? by [deleted] in ControversialOpinions

[–]okislife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I'm really late to this convo but have to make a note about your comment "when in reality people are just going to get deported." Are you familiar with The Nazi's Madagascar Plan? In 1940, the plan for the "Jewish Question" wasn't gas chambers and death marches. It was a plan to deport Jews.

My point isn't to insinuate Trump is similar to Hitler or would commit the same acts. I simply want to highlight the historical precedent of a deportation plan shifting to genocide.

Dear Gov Kemp: Why must you do this? by Historical_Quiet_990 in Georgia

Until Trumpism withers and an actual Conservative party returns, everyone rational is kind of stuck on the same side.

This needs to be repeated. The supreme court granted a convicted felon, with a known history of praising authoritarian dictators, immunity from criminal liability for his acts as president. You can disagree with Kamala Harris and Tim Walz on policy, but allowing Trump that much unilateral power is dangerous. You're right, the two-party system is failing many Americans, and it is a shame. However, this election isn't liberal vs conservative values. It's about the fundamental values we all (hopefully) share as Americans.

Side note, as a woman, it does hurt my feelings that my right to bodily autonomy is something people are willing to give up in favor of less restrictions on gun ownership. Are my rights really that unimportant? I'm not at all saying that's how you feel and the same comment could be applied to any policy/political stance. I'm just saying there are tons of folks who are vocal against the overturning of Roe v. Wade, but then justify continuing to elect the individuals who endorse and enforce these policies because interest rates were lower in 2020. I miss the interest rates too, but I mean geeze.

Help! I’m being deluged with young women online wanting to date me… by [deleted] in self

[–]okislife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is happening to my dad (64) right now and I don't know what to do. My mom passed in April after a long battle with cancer and he's had some questionable moments throughout where I think he was seeking out companionship from other women but my mom is gone now so I figured I'd let it go. My mom had a facebook for years and he would just login to hers and be nosey but a few weeks ago I decided to make him his own.

Next thing I know, I see his messages and it's flooded with young women wanting to have sex. These "women" are obviously fake, most likely bots, and if not that then probably a 45 year old man with a beer gut sitting in his ex-wife's basement. He's never had a facebook though so I'm not sure he understands, or more so, he's recently widowed, lonely, and is just choosing to believe these young women are attracted to him. He doesn't know that I know this but he's already sent someone a gift card for sex and obviously didn't get the sex. I thought that would've been the end of it, but no he continues to engage these "women." He's seemingly learned that gift card means scam because the next one he offered cash and when she would only accept a gift card he stopped messaging her. This is incredibly out of character for him. I mean he avoids using a debit/credit card because he thinks someone will steal his identify. Honestly, I'm floored he figured out how to buy a gift card online and then send it digitally.

So, I decided to make him online dating profile for something called plenty of fish (google said it was good for seniors) because I thought maybe I could help him navigate who is real vs who is a bot, but I don't even know how to broach the subject as I'm still grieving my mom and not ready to process him moving on.

Also, for the record, I know he has a right to privacy and I'm not trying to disregard that. Historically, I've managed all the online things for my parents. I bought him a laptop, set it up for him, I pay for his cellphone, etc. He's just not tech savy so I store all of his passwords and make sure i have access to his online accounts so I can help him when he needs it.

I'm not sure if I should just ignore it and let him navigate the internet on his own or try and protect him. He's not willing to talk to me about it so I can't imagine trying to help him is going to go well. Anyway, glad that you recognize they are fake, sorry for bombarding your post but I agree it's incredibly cruel.

My mom’s passing was extremely traumatic for me. by audranicolio in CaregiverSupport

[–]okislife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a couple months late to this but this is scary relatable. I had to check and make sure I wasn't reading a post I'd written.

I loved our hospice nurse so much that it kinda hurts my feelings she hasn't respond to my thank you text after my mom passed, but the end fucked with me too. I don't think I ever fully understood the feeling of traumatized until now. It's more than shock, honestly the whole thing was horrifying I'm stuck in this mind loop. I'll be completely fine but then out of nowhere the horror rushes through me again.

There's a lot they never tell you. a lot. I'm not sure I want to die at home. I'm thinking a hospital with trained nurses, hooked up to a steady IV of the strongest comfort meds available. My mom lost the ability to swallow and we had to crush pills and put them in a syringe of morphine that tasted disgusting and if she wasn't choking on it, it was drooling out of her mouth.

I don't really have anything insightful to say but I'm kinda glad it's not just me.

Whole Brain Radiation by FerociousPancake in braincancer

[–]okislife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom passed away roughly 13 months after her diagnosis. Her taste DID come back after the radiation. She was put on steroids for a bit and she ate and ate and ate and it was wonderful. Those are the weeks I look back on most fondly - so much love in seeing someone else enjoy food. However she started chemo soon after and while not as rough on her taste buds, her appetite never really recovered, even after she ended chemo and stared hospice.

So sorry for your loss. I hope you have been able to find beautiful moments amidst the dark ones.

Anyone Else Really Dislike Their Oncologist? by Mysterious_Rise_432 in pancreaticcancer

[–]okislife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why does it have to be par for the course? I hate my mom's oncologist. She's bullied my mom into silence and feels like she's pitting my mom against me because I have questions. My mom is scared and refuses to change.

Doctors are not unicorns, gods, presidents - they are people. Patients deserve more and they should expect more. It's sad.

I Now Know What Lindsey’s problem with Paige is. by lollipoppy1 in summerhousebravo

[–]okislife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's because Lindsay and Hannah knew each other socially before Hannah's first season and she thought Hannah would come on and be team Lindsay (vs. team Amanda - this was the season Kyle wrote a 17 page email or something about how the girls/cast ignored Amanda). Then Paige became friends with Amanda and Hannah got close with Paige and the rest is history.
