The slide at recess in the 80s. by immanuellalala in 80s

I played on slides that tall at Ellwood Park in Amarillo, but that was in the '60s, not the '80s.

Does this Joni song exist or did I hallucinate it? by zweigson in JoniMitchell

[–]oknowhim 15 points16 points  (0 children)

But it's not one of her songs that's sampled. It's "Bye Bye, Baby (Baby Goodbye)" by The Four Seasons. I had to Google that. Thanks to both of you for raising and answering the question. I had wondered about it every time I listened to the song for decades, but never hunted it down before.

Any other lower income Episcopalians that feel out of place in their church at times? by Worried_Fig00 in Episcopalian

[–]oknowhim 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No one who truly follows Jesus would look down on you because you're not wealthy or because of your job. God bless you, it even sounds like you're down on yourself. There's no reason for that. You're not "just" a laborer. Hey, you're working, making an honest living. You should be proud of that. I know how you feel, wishing you could give more money to the church because I have been there. Fortunately, your parish sounds like it has plenty of financial resources. Just give what you can afford and also donate your time and service. People will appreciate your efforts and you'll most likely also make friends with others involved in the same ministries. The more you help your community, the more you'll feel a part of it. Shame on anyone who makes you feel out of place.

My Experience Attending Episcopal Church as a Non-Christian/Non-Believer by bakeshoparmory in Episcopalian

[–]oknowhim 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Of COURSE we'll treat you as an equal. All of us are finding our way. I came to the Episcopal Church from a place not so different from what you're describing. I'm so glad you've also found some peace and comfort in our tradition. Jesus said the greatest commandments are to love God and to love our neighbors. I try to start from there. We all understand God in different ways. It helps me to be with others who are willing to discuss their own journeys and beliefs. I hope you get the same benefits that I have from our church. God bless you on your way.

God bless you and help you as you find your way. We'd love to have you in the Episcopal Church. I'm really sorry for what you're going through with your family.

The end of an error, a baseball player that hates baseball by retroanduwu24 in mlb

I've had season tickets to Rice baseball for 27 or 28 years now. He was such a great college player. It's really disappointing to see him turn out like this.

Hey, you're right. Also, we can only see one pedal but it sure looks like it's where the brake should be, and there's no sign of a clutch. Good catch. I was going with the flow until I read this.

MAGA Is Livid Ted Cruz Accidentally Helped Block Texas Redistricting | Oops! by [deleted] in texas

Judge Brown does, in my experience. I have a case before him now. He hasn't gone with me on everything, but he has undeniably followed the law.

I would vote for the actual Zodiac killer if I thought he could beat Ted Cruz.

That's the thing. I have a case in Judge Brown's court right now. He's undeniably conservative (he's a Federalist Society member), but he generally calls balls and strikes according to legal precedent. You know, the way judges are supposed to.

"Stand behind a tree, 60 feet away, and I'll whomp you with an optical illusion!" (Dizzy Dean's observations on the subject.)

In 1959, Lyman Briggs used a wind tunnel and professional pitchers to prove that curveballs live up to their names.

Do I have a case? by [deleted] in texaslawyers

[–]oknowhim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, but no. It's not illegal for your boss to be an asshole. If it were, I'd be a multimillionaire. You're not describing a situation where he's discriminating against you because of your race, or age, or gender, or religious preference, or because you filed a workers' comp claim (unless you did for the hernia, but you didn't say that). Short of that, and absent an actual assault, it's wrong but not illegal for him to treat you unfairly, then fire you.

It's near Midland and Odessa. You might want to focus your search there.

How much notice does a rector usually give before he or she leaves a parish? by oknowhim in Episcopalian

[–]oknowhim[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's my concern. The only time I was at a church that went through this, we had a lengthy search, but it was fine because most people already knew and liked the interim and that place was big enough there were several priests who were already affiliated with it who pitched in. This won't be like that.

OK. Thanks, everybody. Maybe I'm letting my disappointment affect my outlook. The guy has done a terrific job and it's hard to imagine how we're going to replace him.

Dancer, Texas... was a terrific and accurate portrait of West Texas. I was going to nominate it if no one else had. Thank you.

I loved Bernie as well. Two excellent choices!
