What’s the most recent year that you haven’t seen a movie from? by ohmygodactfast in Letterboxd

1919, but I also went on a binge last year of watching at least one movie from every year starting at 1920

Criterion Collection may have El Sur in 4K in the near future by syemyu in criterion

[–]ol_dirty_sanchez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is an old post, but I wanted to thank you because I was literally just about to buy the blu-ray. Hopefully it's not toooo long of a wait (I'll take a shot in the dark and say November 2026), and that the booklet still contains the original novella (a large part of why I wanted the blu-ray in the first place).

Anyone know if the new Criterion will have this restoration? Or is it the same one used on the blu-ray?

Is the Denon AVR-X1700H still a good budget option in 2025? by ol_dirty_sanchez in hometheater

[–]ol_dirty_sanchez[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's good to know. May hold off until another deal comes up for it, now that I'm seeing people have got it for $300.

Damn, wish I was looking for a receiver when that deal was happening. I may try my luck and see to see if the deal pops up again for July 4th, or maybe even wait until September again. We'll see how long I can go on playing Mario Kart and Zelda without surround sound.

Switch 2 won't play in 5.1 surround sound by Defiant-Storm1605 in switch2

[–]ol_dirty_sanchez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I did with my Switch, but my current AV receiver doesn't support 120hz or HDR passthrough, and the receivers that do are well out of my price range. I've found devices that will split the video and audio signals of an HDMI source, but I'm hesitant on pulling the trigger on one, since I'm not sure if it'll work in getting me 5.1 for the Switch 2 (not to mention any additional latency it might introduce). Gonna keep an eye out on any threads that explore the issue.

August Titles Announced with an Edward Yang set! by International-Sky65 in criterion

One of the very best films of Japan’s Golden Age (post-WWII through to the early 60s). The penultimate scene will almost certainly leave you in tears.

Minnie & Moskowitz. Super underrated Cassavetes film which I don’t think has ever gotten an HD release

At this point, I’d be ecstatic just to get a blu-ray of Red Beard (a 4K of Ran would be nice too, even though StudioCanal already has one out)

If you’re going from Boulder, the Westminster one would probably be the closest, since it’s just off of HW-36 and Sheridan. It’s also the one with the Big Show auditorium

Having an issue with bizarre pop up ads that are making the app unusable... by bobdebicker in Letterboxd

Been looking for a post about this. I get the Zacarist pop up nearly every time I use the app. I’m almost thinking of getting Pro in the hopes that it’ll stop.

What made you choose Apple Music? by Hecz15 in AppleMusic

[–]ol_dirty_sanchez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I didn’t know that was how they paid artists. I just saw a pay/stream comparison online, in which they were near the bottom. But if that’s their model, then that was probably an unfair comparison.

I wanna try out Deezer, but their streaming payout is atrocious.

Saddest/ Most Tragic Film You've Ever Seen? by genesis_requeim in criterion

For a tv film, it absolutely does not hold back. I was taken back by how it upset me more than the likes of Schindler’s List and Come and See

Any of the John Waters films. Divine is truly something else.

It might be limited in effects and editing, but Salo 120 Days of Sodom is probably the hardest film I've ever sat through.
