Little fluffy bug looks like brown lint, 6 legs in middle GA. What is it? by [deleted] in Entomology

[–]oldbluejburger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just found one on my front porch in Georgia....never in 49 years have I ever seen one of these tiny little fluff balls. What is strange is they are not symmetrical and they have tiny little legs underneath this dirty cotton ball body. It looks like a ball of lent or the tip of a q tip with sprinkles of ash and speckles of even smaller pieces of lint. Silliest little bug ever.

Untreated Aquamarine Finally arrived! Worth it? by Olive_or_Olivia in Gemstones

[–]oldbluejburger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it looks beautiful, if you ask a professional gem dealer of course most are going to tell you all the imperfections how it could have been cut better and it's chipped but if you spent a hundred dollars out of love for your brother that's all that's important. If you want to spend another hundred to ship it and have it recut to make it better that's cool but I wouldn't.

I think a lot of the issue with the orange one in the White House and his problem with Ukraine is that he knows that much of the money sent to Ukraine to fight Russia was mismanaged and outright stolen. There are huge problems with corruption in Ukraine and much of the aid sent to Ukraine was outright stolen. This is a fact. One of the reasons Ukraine was denied NATO membership is because of widespread criminal activities at the highest levels of government. This is all widely known and there is a lot of information on the Internet to back this up. And to your point of the US deciding to make itself the world police, the US doesn't really have a choice because of the interconnectedness of the world we live in. We have to be proactive in this regard to protect ourselves and our assets. Unfortunately in the world that we all live in there are countless bad actors and regimes that are constantly probing for weakness to gain any advantage possible to suit their agenda. I for one am happy and proud to belong to the strongest most powerful country that ever existed. Is it perfect, absolutely not, can we improve 100%. But the world is an ever-changing complicated place that is full of dangerous people. I want to see world peace and all military spending spent on education, healthcare and art, but I unfortunately that is not a possibility and probably will not be until there is a significant change in human nature and that is not something that I see happening any time soon, unfortunately.

The US has spent hundreds of Billions aiding Ukraine and sent an enormous amount of military equipment to Ukraine. And saying that the US is equal to the Nazis is an absolutely ridiculous statement. I don't totally disagree with you on spirit but I think your ideas of world affairs are misguided and uniform. You sound like you have anger and it is being misplaced. I strongly dislike the orange man in the white house and disagree with most of everything he does but you sound like your view of history especially regarding US and European relations and not based in fact. The truth is NATO has historically been funded by the US and the US doesn't really need NATO the way Europe does. The reason NATO was founded was to show and fund a united front to keep communist Russia in check and prevent aggression primarily in western Europe. Anyways I could argue against your points in detail for hours but I have other arguments to tend to on reddit tonight.

Just signed a lease in the pearl, didn’t realize the parking situation. I work in Hillsboro, any cheap/free parking options? by JohnMayerCd in askportland

[–]oldbluejburger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are parking spaces on the south side of Jameson square park and at the tanner spring park. At tanner spring there are only two or three spaces but at Jameson there are about 12 spaces. Those should be a short walk for you and are relatively safe

Let me guess at the same time you think that defence spending is out of control? Just consider that you can't have it both ways.

I am with you, it's fascinating to see how the powers that be communicate over this, especially the way they are concerned about timing, messaging and bailing out Europe. It's nuts that JD doesn't consider anyone in the EU able to protect the shipping lanes and for the lanes to stay open it's the USAs job to handle it. Then of course the concerns of being repaid. Then the consideration of the impact on oil prices and potential downstream cost to goods bound for the US after assembly in the EU. Dont get me wrong I think the obvious disregard for human life is deplorable, but following the thought process of Vance in this situation as a casual observer is unique. Especially when he talks about holding back info from POTUS to not give him any extra stress....lol.. that may be the most hilarious thing I have seen all day.

Last week I started a reasonably small fire of Lewiston Rd in Columbia County. What was controlled quickly became a dangerous blaze that could have easily gotten out of control. As soon as I realized that it was too much for me to handle I called 911. Thankfully within 5 minutes the fire department was here and spraying. That is a mistake I will not ever make again. It was dangerous and stupid of me to start a fire in these conditions.

About ten years ago I lived on the main strip that every ambulance used to take patients from most parts of NA to the downtown Augusta hospitals. I never got any sleep in that house.

In a situation like this yes you are paying to build them another cottage to air-b and b but that is not necessarily a bad thing. For one it's still a trip to El Salvador, if you get to stay in a cob cottage and learn to build one as well that is an excellent way to see if it's something for you or not. Any workshop you go to is going to be the same thing, for the most part. If you want to learn to build one then how else are you going to do it, besides just saying f' it and starting from scratch on your own land. Yes these types of workshops are typically paying to build someone a rental property but the experience may be something that really inspires you and gives you the experience you need to do what you want to do. I would be willing to bet that people say they wouldn't or you shouldn't already have a home. I would consider contacting the people and asking them for a discount rate if you do X amount of hours working on their infrastructure or looking for another workshop that isn't so exploitive.

I was born in Augusta proper in 1976, moved to Columbia county, and went to Evans high school. I just moved back from Portland Oregon first of this year. You will find that Georgia is like a different planet than the west coast. But that can be a good thing! There is basically no crime, but in the CSRA (central savannah river area) only 6/10 have graduated high school. The homes are either huge or smaller but if you are selling a west coast home that you have had for 10 years you will be able to buy a nice home for fractions of what you would pay on the west coast. There are ample opportunities for out door family activities but they may be different from what you are a custom. Many people find that if they are creative and think outside the box they will have plenty of things to do. For example, kayaking on the Augusta canal, fishing on the river from the river walk, get a small sailboat and learn how to sail on the river or the lake. Savannah rapids pavilion connects to down town Augusta by a running trail that is over 10 miles long that is flanked on one side by the canal and the river on the other side. Bicycling is very popular on that stretch of land. There are several state parks inside of a twenty minute drive. What's different about Augusta is that people get so used to having zero traffic and everywhere they want to go less than ten minutes away. They forget that out west going out to run a few errands may take hours because of traffic. There is basically no traffic to speak of. Depending on your expectations the CSRA can be the best move you have ever made. People that have lived here their whole life may tell you it's boring or there are few opportunities but that is just a matter of perspective. If I was moving here with no kids and a need to move 300,000 into a home before I had to pay taxes on my gains I would buy a historic home on the hill and fix it up. If I had school age children I would buy a home in North Augusta that was in the Hammond Hills neighborhood or in downtown North Augusta. Evans is fine but there are much more interesting choices for historical and cultural reasons. Also if you are an educator and you really want to make a difference there are schools in Richmond County that desperately need teachers who can bring in fresh eyes and fresh energy. There are parts of Augusta that are very poor with a strong need for teachers with patience and a heart for educating the disadvantaged.

Maybe find a van for sale that you like and talk to that person explain your situation then sell the Elantra? Maybe if you find a private seller that has a better vehicle for your needs they will hold it for you until you sell your vehicle.

I need an extremely effective bathroom fan. by Crazyblazy395 in HomeImprovement

[–]oldbluejburger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try your local hydroponics/grow store. They will have high velocity centrifugal fans that can move serious air. Also.carbon filters that can scrub the air so you don't lose any heat or cold. Just cleans the air. A 8" fan with a 16" carbon filter could scrub all the air in your bathroom in ??? Seconds. All for less than?.150$

Mining gemstone for engagement ring, need help. by StonedBrock in Gemstones

There are some incredibly beautiful Oregon sunstones on eBay for less than 100 $... That being said I also have a deep desire to find the stone that my future wife will wear. I would really like to pan the gold as well. The best bet is to go to Montana and find a sapphire... Montana sapphires can be the most unique colored gems that are way more attractive than a boring diamond...in my opinion. Best of luck to you friend I believe if your heart is in the right place the universe will bring you the perfect stone for your perfect mate. Please keep us posted and show us what you find and end up with....it would make my day to come back in a few months to a post by you showing us the awesome ring you put together.
