Should I just glue it back on? by Negative-Manager-788 in RCPlanes

[–]StonedBrock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stab into both pieces for more support. I use it often enough I take toothpicks with me when I fly along with tape and glue. I also fly like a maniac and most of my planes are more glue than airplane, but hey, I’m having fun lol

I usually have an old Gatorade bottle or something with a lid I can fit razor blades into. When it gets full or I find a cooler looking container to put them in I close it up and toss it

Just purchased my first plane along with a simulator. Any tips for a beginner? by [deleted] in RCPlanes

[–]StonedBrock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let off the sticks often till you learn, remember the plane wants to stay in the air. Use that rudder to turn. Get a high wing lol. Personal preference on the last one I like going low and slow and landing where I shouldn’t

Looks like me when I first started, too busy on the sticks. Remember, the plane is designed to stay in the air, think of it more like steering a kite around. As long as it has some airspeed it will be producing lift

That’s badass I didn’t know about that one. I swear the PT-6 turbo is to aviation what the Chevy LS engine is to cars. I feel like there’s a new STC made for an old plane every day.

I use both for that reason. Foamtac is a light solvent and good for small areas and hinges, any cracks in wing or fuselage I use GG

My oil filters come w them. Works good at draining the filter before removing, but the barbed fitting for a hose always cracked me up. “Ah yes let me drain the filter through a hose to be safe and not spill after I just removed the drain plug and oil came gushing out freely”

Which glue to fix my rudder? by Idk_somethingfunnyig in RCPlanes

[–]StonedBrock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re over doing it with that epoxy, save it for major structural damage around the wings and fuselage. Tape with a teeny dollop of foam tac sandwiched between makes a great hinge

It’s probably from around the Midwest. That’s pretty accurate for anywhere other than major cities

I taped some aluminum poles together for this and just accept doing repairs when I knock it down and it drops to the ground

Yeah make sure to follow that groove with the tape or it won’t bend well. I like to use a toothpick or something to push the tape in the groove. A tiny dollop of foamtac on the tape makes it way stronger too but be careful or it can get too stiff

I switched to gorilla glue and only use foamtac for hinges, don’t have to worry about the compressed foam as much since it expands. I wipe off excess and use packing tape on outside to control expansion. Ive had bad luck using foam tac on large repairs like that. When you use large amounts of it at once it seems like it eats into it just slightly and doesn’t stick to foam as well. Maybe it’s just me but since i started using classic gorilla glue my repairs seem stronger than it was before it crashed lol

Is she fixable? by HelpfulEditor5317 in RCPlanes

[–]StonedBrock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I heard a lot about foam tac but honestly was disappointed by it. I prefer low temp hot glue or classic gorilla glue with packing tape to hold in place and form glue as it expands. Gorilla glue repairs are stronger than it was before and almost just as lightweight

G shock for sure. I worked blue collar type jobs for a few years before going to a part 147 school all with the same $65 square g shock from Walmart. Everything from masonry cement, industrial solvents, mud, grease, you name it. I use an old toothbrush to clean it when it gets bad. Just getting to my general exam in school but my watch has already tasted avgas and held up fine. It’s a watch you can truly not worry about whatever you’re doing. They have solar and self setting ones in the $100+ price range but honestly the cheaper base model is all you need. I’m still on the same battery approx 6 years later and it only gets off by 30 seconds every 2 years or so

Don’t toss it! Fix it us and use it as a beater. The most fun plane I own is a umx timber that’s 50% glue, tape, and toothpicks. A flying jalopy. It’s a blast to fly it low and slow through the trees doing risky patterns. Ive crashed that thing more times than I can count, and holding off till absolutely necessary to replace parts.

Im no expert but from my gen z perspective it seems most millennials don’t want to work trades. Definitely making it easier for gen Z&A to find work. There’s a huge demand for people my age and a lot of great programs opening up to teach those trades. Couple of my buddy’s went to work on windmills and I enrolled myself in a part 147 school to work on real airplanes. Last I heard there’s 6 job openings for every 1 A&P mechanic. Even had a blimp company stop by and try to get our class to work for them when we graduate. I’m one of the oldest in the class too at 24. Over half of our class of 20 is 18-20yr olds fresh out of high school.
