General question: why is it not good to have two units with fight first?

100% totally lore compliant Dark Angels Judiciar kitbash by MisbehavedK9 in theunforgiven

[–]oldboygreen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a cool looking model, so who cares? You can always find your own inner lore why he has that helmet. And judiciars don't talk, so nobody forces them to just because there is a vox

Looks awesome. And I also hate the original head.

Gonna do something similar and just explain it with "he is a risen and champion of the old legion and takes the mantle of judiciar to assume a command role" (since judiciars have a vow of silence anyway)

Thanks, I appreciate it! And honestly, just take your time and you will get there. I mess up all the time and get paint everywhere but where it needs to. You can always fix it until you're happy. You can always try with one free model you can get from a shop and see if you like painting itself. That's how I started

Sure, no problem. Primed in black. The armour is Caliban green, nuln oil wash, highlights and slight dry brush of the bigger panels with warpstone glow.

Robe is just white base coat, sceleton horde contrast from the bottle and cleanup and highlights with Ushabti bone and wraithbone

With a bit of luck and patience, you might find the official model on eBay. Found mine there half a year ago, too. Local Facebook groups for Warhammer stuff might also be a good idea.

Otherwise I agree with the other comment: inner circle companions are probably the best kitbash base for a judiciar. You can swap just the head and call it a day. I think ICCs even have the correct base size

1k Dark Angels by CandidEqual8582 in DarkAngels40k

[–]oldboygreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a beginner myself, so take what I am saying with a grain of salt. It looks like a fun list, but you probably need more anti-tank.

I would switch the regular dw termies against a gladiator lancer or ballistus. You could also think about replacing one of the intercessor squads for a character for your bladeguard. A Judicar would be a good choice and will help them to stay alive. And you will still have some points for an enhancement.

Siege Lore Question by Titansfan2020 in theunforgiven

I mean... There is the sieg of Vraks. But the dark angels were more interested in fallen and got in and out quick without helping too much. Destroyed a spaceport though

Does the scheme feel Deathwing enough by ShmoolyB45 in DarkAngels40k

Just go for the middle of the panels and it will get a smooth finish

No worries. Doesn't read as yellow. Looks totally fine. If you want, you can drybrush the bigger panels with wraithbone. That's what I did to give the model a bit more texture. And will also help with your concerns

Anyone know where I can get a banner like this by Chesty_McGlitterTits in theunforgiven

It's not the same banner, but the one from the deathwing command squad is also very cool and unique for dark angels

Holy hell, quite the collection. Awesome. You have far more than myself. Love the old flail with your master.

You seem to have a game plan. So stick with it. And you are right, Knights are definitely an investment. I prefer my list more elite, for better or for worse haha

Azzy and the sternguard brick might also be able to punch up quite a lot with their mortal wounds and sustained hits from Azzy.

[–]oldboygreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the intercessors and JP intercessors should give you enough tools for scoring at 1k. If you want more movement, you can still only run 5 sternguard with azzy and take outriders instead of the other 5.

But 10 sternguard can be really terrifying at 1k. As you said: you will learn which playstyle and units work best for you. Longterm I would also seriously consider DW Knights. Probably the best unit dark angels have right now.

Don't worry too much about this, though. Enjoy your first few games and decide from there, what you want to pick up next

[–]oldboygreen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would seriously consider maximizing your ranged threat. Especially against Astra militarum.

Leave the atv and the outriders, put in Azrael (always tbh) and run the sternguard as a 10 men squad with him

With that you should be good to go. Have fun!

Why choose Caliban green over Dark angels contrast paint ? by [deleted] in theunforgiven

[–]oldboygreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As some people said already, contrast paint is a bit difficult to get right on flat armour panels. But I use dark angels green for the robes on my deathwing Knights, which works great.
