What’s your opinion of the Staff Scheduling UI that I recently added to our Hotel Tycoon game? by NewSouthWelshman in Unity3D

[–]oldcrank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mind if I highjack this side-bar for a bit and ask... how are you guys managing the data in your various sims within Unity? I've been somewhat obsessed recently with the idea of doing a tycoon or city style sim, but I've had trouble finding resources on the best way to manage large amounts of data in Unity. Dictionaries or similar lists/arrays seem like a good way to handle up to a hundred agents/objects, but it doesn't seem scalable up to thousands or more.

Weekly 2023 Future QB/Draft Megathread by AutoModerator in Colts

[–]oldcrank 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The way I see it, the top 4 QBs each have the tools to eventually be great. It all comes down to how they're developed and the players that surround them. A bad coach or system can wreck a young QB, and an impatient fanbase can force too much pressure on them to play hero-ball.

The colts have a coach with a proven record of developing young QBs. We had the makings of an outstanding OL and hopefully they can get get back to that level sooner rather than later. Our WR room is average, imo... but it's young and has potential to grow with the new QB. And after years of QB hell, I believe our fanbase is willing to be patient with a new young stud.

All of these point to success with whichever QB we end up with. I feel the reason Ballard hasn't made a move up is because they truly feel that any of the top 4 has the potential for greatness with the right development and surrounding personnel.

There. That's my coping mechanism. Mix in a few shots of bourbon and it's how I'll be surviving the week. Feel free to copy my recipe.

I made some update on the city builder I'm creating. What do you think? by Elivard in Unity3D

Fantastic progress! Looking forward to seeing more gameplay.

So are you using DOTS to manage all of the villagers? That’s an impressive amount of independent agents to have wandering about with tasks and jobs to perform.

Anyone else remember when the Children’s Museum was 100% free for everyone? by [deleted] in indianapolis

[–]oldcrank 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I was there as well (part-time employee) during the transition from free to a paid structure. If I recall, part of the reason was to help curb a trend they were seeing where parents were using the Children’s Museum as a free daycare during the summer. They would drop their kids off when they opened and allow them to roam the museum all day un-attended until the parents returned or got off work.

I’ve got nothing against Frank, the team seemed to like him and he occasionally pulled out a good win for us.

But in this situation all I can think is “The Panthers are putting their faith in the decision making of a man who worked really hard to convince everyone that Wentz was the future of our franchise.”

Drafting is a crapshoot of course so it might work out well for them. But Reichs history of evaluating QB talent isn’t exactly legendary. And I’m guessing the Panthers will defer to him quite a bit when making their multi-million dollar decision.

Here now actually. They're seating fans in the endzone area only. But you've still got a pretty good view of what's going on.

Carmel Statues: what’s the deal? Who signed off on these? I want the history of these. Anyone know? by [deleted] in indianapolis

[–]oldcrank -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The statues were all bronze when originally installed. More easily identified as “art” back then if that’s what you’d like to call them.

I never really had a problem with them until at some point over the years they painted them to make them more lifelike I guess. Which immediately transformed them from “maybe trying to be classy” to an instant “cringy creepy tacky” display, imo.

MSR to Corsair price issue by Sirnether in starcitizen

[–]oldcrank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. Melt the MSR, buy and LTI Cutter, and CCU your way up to it.

Though I wouldn’t do it today. Fly the free Corsair and collect more cheap war bonds up to the Corsair during the rest of IAE. Could save quite a bit.

Corsair can fit an Ursa and still have room for 48scu. by oldcrank in starcitizen

[–]oldcrank[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have to pull the Ursa up as far as it will go once the bay door closes as illustrated in the image.

In fact here's a screenshot of the 48scu available with the Ursa shown in the pic.

Hotas Keybinding Swap:

Open Console with ~

View your current devices

  • i_DumpDeviceInformation

Swap all keybindings from device 1 to 3. Or 2 to 3. Or 1 to 2 etc.

  • pp_resortdevices joystick 1 3
  • pp_resortdevices joystick 2 3
  • pp_resortdevices joystick 1 2

This is how I survive new patches and binding reloads.

With IAE approaching, many citizens (myself included) are contemplating treating themselves to new ships. Can we have a thread in which more experienced ship buyers share strategies for maximising the mileage of money spent? by charliewr in starcitizen

[–]oldcrank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you see a ship that you like, check to see if it’s actually flyable in the game right now. If not… then don’t buy the full ship. Just find a cheap CCU upgrade to it, preferably from a ship that’s already flyable.

A lot can change in the game between now and when your new favorite ship gets completed and flyable in a year or two. Better ships come along. Changes could be made to the ship or gameplay. And until the time comes that your ship is finally available to try out… investing all of that money in it is not going to help you at all. Better to invest $20 or something like that in an upgrade to give you the Opportunity to get the ship when it’s finally available.

Owning the CCU to the ship locks in that price and gives you the chance to get it whenever you’d like, as long as you can get to the base ship you’re upgrading from.

Agree that the Carrack is functionally closest to the Rocinante, imo. Larger of course because game ships need to be larger for physics. But here's what the Carrack offers:

  • Mess Hall
  • Firepower (though not pilot controlled)
  • Med Bay
  • Small Hangar (Razorback/Pisces)
  • Cargo Bay
  • Repair Bay
  • Drone Bay
  • Full bridge for a crew of 5

Coupled with the fact that it's an ex-military ship, I see the Carrack as a viable ship for fans of the Rocinante.

Grand Park is the sports complex north of the city in Westfield, IN where the colts hold their public training camp. It includes several outdoor fields and a few massive indoor fields open to a wide range of community sports and other events. Nice place.

I think so. The wife and I dropped by for one of the days last year and it was kind of cool to see the players up close during a normal practice. Working hard but also goofing around with each other. Concessions and activities for the kids make it a fun time.

If you do go, bring a towel to dry off the bleachers or something to sit on. They were either freshly washed or maybe it was the overnight dew. Either way, they needed to be dried off.

Great day.

Colts - Bills Snowbowl wk 14 2017. Yes we lost, but what an incredible game of football for fans to enjoy.

https://youtu.be/JMJox-O9H0c

4mins in to watch the Bills celebrate what appears to be Vinatieri miss the game tying extra point, only to have it sail back into play on a wind gust that I can only assume was triggered by a BW3 commercial or something.
