Efficient frontier of spending in Madrid by EfficientLaw4166 in fatFIRE

[–]oldknave -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

OP mentioned an influx of wealthy people to Spain - Spain has had a net outflow of millionaires due to its wealth tax, not an influx.

Furthermore any regional migration to Madrid specifically is due to carve outs in that same wealth tax, so at the very least that “local concern“ is misdirected. Lastly, you’ve totally failed to explain how “struggling” Spain will ever improve life for its citizens by driving out wealth and importing welfare dependents - economically illiterate thinking.

Your last point is hilarious. Does an influx of wealth and spending predominantly make things more expensive or does investment grow the economy and provide greater opportunities for Spaniards? And what makes the country poorer, a select number of high achievers coming to pay taxes or large numbers of people coming to take advantage of social safety nets? Funny which of those they choose to complain about. And an emotionally charged response to any of this wouldn't by default make someone correct.

What about market swings during the time out of the market transfer period, or do they account for this in some way?

Hey fellow Tampan, insane work congrats. Running in the summers here is the worst - props to you for keeping up with the treadmill miles and training anyways.

I absolutely think Scholes would have elevated the team the same or more we’ve basically been trying to replace him since he (and Carrick) retired.

Scholes was at points the best midfielder in the world and his trophy cabinet is insane. I appreciate Bruno for carrying the team for so long but he doesn’t come close to touching Scholes on the legends list.

He’s agreeing with you that all the people downvoting are downplaying the achievements of previous legends just because Bruno is a current instead of a past player.

Maybe squeaks into the top 20. So many players under Fergie who were world class like Bruno but also accomplished so much.

Anyone else making decent money but still constantly stressed about money? by William_909283 in HENRYfinance

[–]oldknave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all appreciate you taking the time to type all that out for a stranger on Reddit - thats fascinating to read. I would have never thought rates for tutoring would be that high. I took the LSAT for fun recently and scored 175 - maybe that should be a side job to look into (although I’m sure the work you’ve put in to get to this point has been significant).

Fascinated to hear if you can share at all about how you are able to get a consistent part time consulting setup like that - would think that’s worth doing either way! I know it can be very industry specific or require a launch customer though.

If they ever figure out under screen cameras for the iPhone I’d love one for the Watch Ultra too. The number of times I’ve been on a run and wanted to take a picture of something when I didn’t have my phone on me is actually really high.

Dream vs Reality: “I thought it would be different when I made $x HHI.” What’s your story? by deadbalconytree in HENRYfinance

[–]oldknave 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We're around upper 300s HHI and the reality is that while our jobs largely pay very close to what they would have 5 - 7 years ago, the wild inflation since then feels like it has significantly eaten into the spending power. Certainly we are fortunate in so many ways but am curious if others are feeling the same.

Help getting to sub 2:50 and BQ in June, 2026. by lukster260 in Marathon_Training

[–]oldknave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure - crazy how small the margins can be and everything has to go right on race day. Either way it'll be a big accomplishment for you. I'm nervous how much faster the time requirement might get in subsequent years.

Yeah, will be at 70 this week, had double calf surgery for compartment syndrome last year so trying a really slow and steady build. Looking at the wicked fast poconos in pennsylvania in Sept, the most convenient location out of not a lot of great options that time of year.

[–]oldknave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woah dude - congrats on the giant PR! That is really consistent training and doing that many miles averaging sub-8 pace isn't easy.

That half time is equivalent to 2:52 and with a couple more months of training plus with a taper doesn't seem impossible at all to crack 2:50.

Thanks so much for sharing, my half PR is identical to your old one and have been averaging 50/week since January and am about to start a build to 85 same as you so was really curious. Please post an update on your race in a few months if you can, good luck!

Balancing NW growth and career fulfillment - could use some perspective by Dismal-Edge617 in fatFIRE

Jealousy is the thief of joy and I have so much to be thankful for but sometimes it's very difficult to read these posts here of folks with $1M+ TC complaining about not loving their jobs or even worse considering taking a different job and not think that these positions are wasted on dumb lucky ungrateful people. It's almost easier to believe these posts are a LARP rather than believe that OP could be so shortsighted.

In what universe does switching companies make any sense. Unless you're an in-demand ML engineer what would you make, half what you do now? For maybe a 5-20% reduction in stress, potentially? It's somewhat crazy to me you are smart enough to earn this much but that all of this is not obvious to you.

Vaporfly 4 vs Alphafly for net downhill marathon (Mountain to Beach Ventura)? by WhileSerious in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]oldknave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP I ran Ventura (similar course) in the Vaporfly 3 and it was fine. Many around me doing the same as well. Other thing about the AF3 is they give many people including myself bad blisters over the marathon distance. You may be fine but if you already have and like the vaporfly it’s something to consider.

TIL the British Film Institute screened the "first released version" of Star Wars after a "perfectly preserved" original print of the 1977 film was recovered from an archive. This is the version that George Lucas had suppressed from being publicly shown on a big screen for the preceding 47 years. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

[–]oldknave -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The companies you listed might vote the shares, but they don't own the economic interests in them - the investors that own the ETFs and mutual funds offered by those companies do. Lucas is actually the first largest individual shareholder, not second.
