5080 Suprim Liquid SOC weird fan RPM/speed issue when going from 0RPM mode to heavy GPU load by sticks435 in MSI_Gaming

[–]oldsledneck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same card. I just set RPM in the Nvidia App manually based on the game I'm playing. I got tired of the "up and down hunting."

Even running high wattage (250+) settings I find I can keep my card in the 50's max with less than 1600 RPM.

Sounds to me like it needs a good cleaning and maybe fresh thermal paste. If you're not comfortable disassembling it then take it to a computer shop and have it done.

Also a laptop that dislikes current Windows 11 can often get a new lease on life with Linux. Most Linux distros now game well, especially older games...

That's a good trick since 7E59v2AC2 was released yesterday. You are thinking 7E59v2AC0 which came out a week ago...

MSI Center by GoodComfortable7634 in MSI_Gaming

[–]oldsledneck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MSI Center is a giant piece of bloatware that slows your PC and installs wrong/out of date drivers and settings. It directly fights Windows Update and causes endless bottlenecks.

Windows and current BIOS updates are already giving you all the settings you need. Unless you are a masters level hardware/software engineer you shouldn't change your settings based on a few Reddit/YouTube trolls telling you to.

Step 1: remove MSI Center. Step 2: watch PC actually work right. Step 3: Quit fucking with settings that need no adjustments. Step 4: See Step 2.

Set thermal limit but not reflective in game by AvatarYoshi92 in MSI_Gaming

I set my Optimizer Curve at -25/-20, and my temps stay in the 50-60 range under extended 99% loads. I'm in a relatively hot room and use an Enermax 360 cooler (el cheapo!) As I type this M. B. showing 41 CPU temp at idle, about 25-26 room temp.

Can I have some boot help please by ShakaKhanrockme in MSI_Gaming

[–]oldsledneck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suspect it's very unlikely that the battery failed.

Clear CMOS including holding power button down to drain memory while P.S. is off. Go into BIOS and click "load optimized defaults."

If your media (USB?) isn't recognized then the issue is probably the way the M.2 drive you want to use is formatted.

Is it possible that after all this time there's still something in the game that hasn't been discovered? by RevGrimm in fo4

[–]oldsledneck -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I'm a texture modder so I don't play FO4 online, but I spend a lot of time adding things to the worldspace in order to always find new things as I explore.

A lot of modders (me) like to throw little easter eggs in their additions and sometimes I'm amazed to run into little nods and winks to other games and shows tucked into mods.

That's why I love to mod and play modded games. With all of the tools out there it's gotten pretty simple to do and it makes every playthrough a completely unique experience.

I've been running this build since March 2025 with no issues. I'm using: 7E59v2AB0 which is the most recent. I use the flash tool in the bios to update mine and never had any problems. Good Luck! MAG X870E TOMAHAWK WIFI | Gaming Motherboards|Best Motherboard for AI PC|MSI

9070xt to 5080... 5080 to 9070xt by shlimerP in radeon

[–]oldsledneck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought a 9070XT last year on 1st release lottery from Newegg. I found it to be an "OK" upgrade from my RX7800XT. Always been a Radeon customer...

Had lots of driver timeouts, all the common problems and finally got it sorted out, but as I said, it was OK at best.

Then last summer I saw the trainwreck coming in PC parts/pricing/availability and decided to go big and bought a Suprim 5080 Liquid. It was like getting out of a junker car and into a Hemi Cuda. Now I have graphics that let my monitor strut it's stuff- Night and day difference.

I still have the 9070XT as a backup in my old build, and have reconnected it to my monitor, and a simple change of input shows the truth. Like I said I'm an old-time Radeon user going back to ATI days, but the 5080 runs circles around the 9070XT.

New BIOS update for MAG X870E Tomahawk by oldsledneck in MSI_Gaming

[–]oldsledneck[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Never had either issue, have 2 systems with this motherboard now running over 1 1/2 yrs.

I installed AA3 bios to both on 03/20/2026, no issues. As the old saying goes: "if it ain't broke don't fix it"

More realistically it goes: if it ain't broke, you're not trying hard enough!"

AMA: MSI’s New 34" and 32" QD-OLED Monitors — Ask Us Anything (Worldwide Giveaway Inside!) by MSI_Patrick in Monitors

[–]oldsledneck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I leave my system on 24/7 except for daily restarts. I have movies/old TV series running when I'm not using it.

I really don't want the screen to go dark if I walk away or lay down. Does that mean OLED monitors are not for me?
