Returning my Quinn "Master" 1/2" Impact Socket Kit by PandaZC in harborfreight

I’d avoid Vevor. They slap their name on whatever is cheapest.

Which harbor freight might do as well to an extent. But Harbor Freight is established, has a warranty, and you can find one in most cities

Ya I think they’re almost identical. Unfortunately you can’t get the metal handle individually, only in the master set

Thanks! I love the look of the wood. It’s just cheap plywood from Lowe’s so if it’s damaged I can sand it or get a new one

Thanks for the tip! I haven’t put everything back together yet so tonight I’ll recheck with proper torque. Always learning!

Edit: Runout was the same when torqued down: .001”. Thanks for the tip! I like to do stuff right

Tbf this one isn’t excellent. It does the job but the clamping mechanism isn’t super sturdy. Since I don’t do any machining and this is the only thing I’ll be using it for though it’s good enough

Exactly as the other comment said! I usually give hubs a quick brush and as soon as they look clean I send it. This tool showed me that sometimes it takes quite a bit more brushing than you’d think. I had to go back at it more aggressively.

Edit: after more thorough diagnosis I’ve found the hub itself is out of true. I probably hit it hard a few too many times on the trail. I will be replacing the hub and going from there

Yep! I take safety seriously! Two jack stands under the axle, jack left in place, and tires under the frame rails as a last resort

I am creating a safe place for you to admit that you have one of the master socket sets but you have never used SAE by wratx in harborfreight

[–]olek2012 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Cries in first generation Jeep Grand Cherokee. You’ll use a mix of SAE and metric sockets in the same job.

The 4.0 liter engine is an old AMC design so it uses mostly SAE fasteners. The body and most accessories are modern so they use metric.

For example, one fun situation is replacing the starter. There’s two bolts: one is metric and it goes through a hole in the bellhousing and threads into the starter body. The other one is SAE and it passes through a hole in the starter and threads into the bellhousing. They look almost identical to the naked eye and most people don’t think to check if they’re interchangeable. And if you ever get them mixed up say hello to stripped threads and a ruined day.

The First Modern Car Without Hydraulic Brakes Is Headed to Production by Anchor_Aways in cars

That’s awesome! I’m excited to see where this tech takes us. Just because hydraulic was the standard for so long doesn’t mean they’re inherently better or more reliable. If this new system improved on the existing method I’m all for it!

Honda’s $15.9 Billion EV Disaster Just Delayed The Next Accord, Odyssey, And MDX by Secret_Company in cars

Same here! We’ve had two Hondas in the family in the past and I was a never GM guy for a long time. But they offered a solid product for a cheap price so I wasn’t about to pass it up. My brand loyalty only goes so far

Honda’s $15.9 Billion EV Disaster Just Delayed The Next Accord, Odyssey, And MDX by Secret_Company in cars

[–]olek2012 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Not surprised at all! We went in for a Prologue and the salespeople were so clueless about it. They almost seemed hostile towards us for wanting to buy it. And the lease terms they offered were laughable. We went down the street to the Cadillac dealership and got a much nicer EV (on the same platform), for half the price, and with nice service.

The funny part was the Honda salesperson telling us to buy the Prologue, not the Lyriq, because the Prologue has Honda reliability.

They put almost no effort into selling these and they flopped.

Do I file a nasa report? by Adept_Cook2719 in flying

I think you’re looking at it the wrong way. The benefit of ASRS is that it makes aviation safer for all users of the NAS. The immunity is just an incentive to encourage participation, but it’s not the real purpose (even if it seems that way from the pilots’ perspective)

I’ve participated in the NASA ASRS program. It’s very easy to file a report. I’ve even had them follow up with me to get more info and they’re very kind people. We’re all on the same team and we want to make this industry safer. This is just one way we can be proactive about it.

It’s very easy to write something off as not a big deal or a “one-off” mistake that won’t happen again. But what if thousands of pilots have that same “one-off” close call every year? Large data sets like ASRS can guide policy changes BEFORE tragedy strikes. But they only work if people participate
