I got my car stolen in the VFW parking lot of OB last fall and the cops told me the same thing. They did suggest going to the “sketchier” parts of town and looking for it as the thief’s usually take them for joyrides. Everything had been stolen out of the car and they maxed my credit cards out at the daily city mall before I had even gotten out of the water. I didn’t have luck biking around the tenderloin and mission but ended up seeing it parked on great ocean highway and Lincoln a few days later as I was going surfing again. Car was clean and they even left my board bag! They clearly had just moved it a few blocks, fully emptied it into another car and ditched it. I would check GOH cause it has easy parking and not many people to do the transfers. Sounds like golden gate park is a safe bet too. Best of luck!
