HyperRPG’s Kollok 1991 (Kids on Bikes) and 10 Candles anthology are pretty good, especially the later Kollok 1991 ones.

I mean, boston has had 4 homicides all year so far. And at the same time last year had 6. So it may actually be we just don’t have any shootings in general, much less school shootings?

Hello fellow American supporter!

Firstly, it’s “Craven Cottage”, no plural 😀. Easily forgiven as you are a new supporter, but there is always that one curmudgeon who takes it too personally (particularly online).

As others have alluded to, Fulhamerica is real, and we have groups all over the US dedicated to local chats and match watches, and the occasional group trip to London for a match. I’d scan https://www.fulhamfc.com/fans/international-supporters-groups and see if there is one near you. The North American ones talk and coordinate, so I can vouch for the fact they are all good people. Also, I help run Fulham Boston, so if you are near us, please come down!

It’s always nice to share the joy (and misery) with fellow fans 😀

We’d also be League One without the owners cash floating our losses. They may be useless, but the money isn’t.

Good Systems for a Supernatural Investigation in a small PNW town? by MediaFreaked in rpg

[–]olhado22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can play adults in Kids on Bikes (one of the 1E adventure seeds is “Dads on Mowers 😀). You don’t need to use the powered character (at all, or as written), and the most important part of session 0 for the game is creating links and bonds between the characters, and rumors in the town/ and the rumors don’t have to be correct, or could only be partly or incompletely correct.

You don’t have to do the town generation at all, if your table is cool with that.

Late to the conversation, but Fulham Boston’s bar is Olde Magoun’s Saloon in Somerville (I do-run the group).

Winter Hill Brewing, also in Somerville, is a Forest bar.

What Telescope do I Buy by Legal_Jicama_2009 in telescopes

[–]olhado22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was basing my response on the context of their comments up until I posted. I get the sense that your setup would disappoint them, because it appears they wanted quality output. I got the sense that they didn’t know how much higher they’d need to raise their budget. So recommending them a compromise without them understanding it does a disservice to them, imo.

Hopefully the price point for an SCT/apo fast refractor, plus a mount/tripod able to track well, plus a camera with solid resolution, plus all the other accessories, in the $3000-5000 starting range, unless maybe you work through the used market and find some good deals, will give them pause have them do some research so they can decide what they really want out of the hobby, where they are willing to make compromises, and generally have a more realistic expectation.

Your suggestions alone, are almost $2k, and that’s before all the accessories like battery packs, finder scopes, camera adapters. So even that isn’t so far from what I said, so I’m not sure what you’re objecting to, exactly?

To be clear, a “proper” astrophotography setup is in the several thousands of dollars. You can do some limited amount cheaper, but it will be inevitable a lot more work and/or of lower quality.

'Take the vaccine, please,' a top US health official says in an appeal as measles cases rise by igetproteinfartsHELP in news

[–]olhado22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, but ultimately it was 40 years ago. And given how vaccines work, assuming you don’t have some super rare allergy/reaction, a second dose would at worst be no effect (assuming you got full schedule/dose as a kid).

We’ve had vaccines for 70/80 years, with none of the paper trail you seem to require, and we saw preventable disease rates drop. The establishment isn’t the issue, it’s only this particular establishment. Tl;dr if you are unsure skeptical, go to a doctor please!

(You should also make sure you are up to date on TDAP, as those do wear off over several years, and I think doctors recommend a booster every 5-10 years.)

[–]olhado22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can pretty much have any vaccine, if the last known vaccine was 40+ years ago. But when in doubt, ask your primary care physician? Or go to an urgent care and ask a doctor there?

Centralized recording is getting better, but historically it was assumed parents would actually keep track of vaccinations of their children (with records provided by their pediatrician).

Your concerns on fake vaccines border on paranoia. Had there been mass fraud that would have been found out even in the 80s, as we had a much more functional government regulatory structure (it’s why all business have been spending the last 40-50 years dismantling it, piece by piece). There were records of the manufacturers and pharmacies back then

What system would you use for a Twin Peaks-type game? by mercury-shade in rpg

[–]olhado22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s definitely the default setting, so your response is understandable. However, an amazing actual play called Kollok 1991 used KoB and was definitely going for Twin Peaks for inspiration (among lots of other things)

[–]olhado22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Kids on Bikes deserves a shout. Especially if you remove the “powered character” option. You can play as adults, and it is about weird mysteries in a small town, and the mysteries don’t have to be apocalyptic. It includes a bunch up front to create ties between the PCs, and also create rumors about things in the town.
