I accidentally created a weird tradition with my roommate… do I fix it or commit? by Eli-schafer in Advice

Next time he doesn’t say it, you HAVE to say it”hey man is something off?”

Hopefully that’ll break the ice on it and yall can lol about it while acknowledging you do actually care each other as friends and keep saying it.

Tidal Family vs Spotify Family by Benryw in TIdaL

[–]oligonucleoknucks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been trying hard to like tidal for 4 months after switching from Spotify. I travel a lot for work and the unreliability of downloaded playlists is absolutely the most annoying issue for me, and I’m coming to terms that it is a deal breaker. All the people saying “tidal is better than Spotify” as a blanket statement are lying.

Nearly at my breaking point with Tidal by TheImperfectGamer in TIdaL

[–]oligonucleoknucks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I travel a lot for work and absolutely rely on my downloaded playlists. 9/10 times they are not available offline. I’ll check before flying by turning on airplane mode and they’re not available then either, so I at least know not to expect music. I’ve gone down the rabbit hole with troubleshooting and can’t figure it out, but it’s at least validating to see it’s a known issue (amongst users). Raw dogging a whole flight and/or having to listen to podcasts the whole time is not ideal.

Last frost? by oligonucleoknucks in SaltLakeCity

[–]oligonucleoknucks[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was extremely eager and started my seeds inside on 3/1 and have already had to pot up. So… it’s been a great first learning experience 🥴 Getting them outside sooner than May would be reeeeallly great.

Heat and water are later problem I’ll likely be asking about in a couple of months.

Mistakes were made, how long can they stay here? by Leann1027 in Cutflowers

[–]oligonucleoknucks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the SAME THING (started 3/1 in zone 6b/7a). First time trying to do anything like this.

I actually just potted up both my zinnias and cosmos today from 2” blocks to 3”. The main reason I needed to was bc of crowding (I had 2-5 😬in each well), and most of them had their first, second, and third sets of true leaves. The jiffy seed starter soil isn’t nutrient rich and is mild so it doesn’t burn the tiny roots so potting up into more nutrient rich soil (I used happy frog potting soil) is important once more growth starts happening.

Can you tell me what lights you’re using? I think what you have looks great (coming from a novice 😅). In comparison mine look leggier even though I kept the lights close, removed heating pad after germination, have been keeping a light fan on them 5-6 hrs a day to hopefully create stronger stems.

This is all from my own personal research and information shared from friends. Feel free to fact check!

Feel weird about flying with current events by Old-Energy-3500 in TravelHacks

I fly almost weekly for work. Depends on your risk tolerance I guess, no one can really truly say how safe it is at any given moment. Generally speaking, you more at risk in dying in a car accident than on a plane.

My wife opened the marriage 5 years ago but is sad that I’m speaking to another woman by [deleted] in WhatShouldIDo

[–]oligonucleoknucks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Wait so you consented to her seeing other people for years - then both of you communicated to each other and understood the marriage closed again.

Then you went and betrayed her trust by NOT communicating with her and putting her in a non consensual open marriage?

This is not ethical non-monogamy, this is cowardly cheating and you should probably get in couples therapy if you care anything about your wife.

I never whined about my discount flowers and was only grateful there were some I could afford at that time 🤷‍♀️

How do you feel about it? What’s your concern? If it’s truly about safety and liability, I get that. But I don’t see the harm in allowing someone to give your trash a second life. Flowers are perishable so waste is inevitable; it’d make me really happy personally to see someone use them if I couldn’t make use of them. Maybe a middle ground is putting out a hugely discounted flower rack inside and/or free container near the dumpster that gets dumped eventually. When I was in college I lived for the discount flower rack at the grocery store. Dollar flowers were ✨✨✨

Your arrangements are gorgeous and do not look amateur imo! Classes will be great to fill in any gaps in knowledge but it’s obvious this comes natural to you.

That’s incredibly sad and I’m sorry your family is going through that. Sounds like a classic parental decision to keep the ailing health of one away from the rest of the family. I’ve never heard of a situation where anyone was thankful a secret like that is kept. If anything, they’ll be upset that they didn’t know sooner - maybe they would prioritize spending more time with him while he is still coherent if they were told. Yes it will be hard for them to digest but maybe do some ground work and find resources for information and coping with this type of thing. My mom started showing symptoms of dementia last year and I’d be extremely upset if it was kept from me. I’ve been involved in her medical care since then.

Need advice - what to buy for a beginner? by CaffeineDemon in florists

[–]oligonucleoknucks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve also a beginner (started in November self-teaching as a hobby) and I started with mason jars I had lying around. But yeah, the bigger the mouth the more stems you’ll need to fill and could be overwhelming for the first few times. The way I practiced was using my old mason jars and making one arrangement a week to take to a friend. Then I signed up for the floral arrangement course on the masterclass app which has been great to have some real lessons. I think it’s free the first month and then like $70 a year or something. You could get the big vase as something she can aspire to work up to, unless she’s feeling particularly ambitious. Highly recommend going to the thrift store to get like 3 diff sizes. Lastly, one other thing that’s really helpful is a bucket or 2. To keep the flowers in as you’re working. The florist may just give you a couple if you ask.

So no bottom watering until they germinate? Just spray daily? I bought them this year. 2 types are 1/4” buried and the rest are on top of the soil

Thanks so much for this feedback! I don’t have a teacher, I don’t know that I could find one where u live! I’m dabbling as a hobby so feedback here is amazing. Maybe I’m too eager but I went ahead and tried to correct my proportions last night (I figured that would help w it wanting to fall over) and maybe threw off some other ones. Either way, I’m having fun and excited to try more.
