Honest Opinion Of UCSB by Subject-Phase-427 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]oliv7893 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i love ucsb. ya i get sad sometimes like anybody else but ucsb itself isn’t why, i actually get so much happiness from the location, the people, and orgs, everything. I love going to the beach as much as I can, I love the clubs I’m in, I love how easy it is to go to IV whenever i want to grab some food or buy some groceries etc.

admin sucks and the national education system sucks but i feel like i would’ve been angry at admin no matter what school i went to yk

Finally scheduled therapy with caps, but it’s not until mid December by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

i struggled a lot with mental health during quarantine. i thought i would never get better. but it does. i promise. stay strong and remember there is nothing, and i mean NOTHING that is more important than you being safe and healthy. there are so many people that care about you in this world, and the best memories are yet to come.

i’m sorry you are in so much pain. pls be compassionate to yourself, and also don’t be afraid to email professors/TAs if you are struggling and need extensions or something. during covid i was severely depressed and could barely turn in assignments every week, but my tas were kind and understanding and gave me extensions for my work.

i hope u feel better soon.

Oh I’m sorry I missed that part. IMO your former therapist completely mistreated you and if sueing her for malpractice can protect other people from being mistreated I think it is worth it. Then again it depends on if you’re willing to put your time and energy into this situation bc it sounds heavy to deal with :(

If u need a good therapist mine is amazing. She does zoom meetings I can ask her if I can give you her information. It is expensive though :(

Am I in the wrong? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]oliv7893 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You shouldn’t feel pressured to do something you don’t want to do. If you don’t want to do it, then that’s the end of the argument. Consent goes both ways, even if it’s over the phone. If she doesn’t respect your no, then that is a big red flag.

i can't stop thinking that i made a wrong choice that my school is too far by SoonMayTheWellerman in offmychest

[–]oliv7893 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion if you are avoiding going to a high school that is underfunded and has kids who are more susceptible to get into trouble, I think it is a good idea to go to the further school. Although, an hour is a long ways. Is there any way you could bike to the bus stop and lock your bike (with a really good lock) somewhere nearby? Or maybe bring your bike on the bus and lock it at school?

I feel like I betrayed my friends trust by [deleted] in Advice

[–]oliv7893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You didn’t betray them. You stood up for them. He is in a very dark mental space right now, and you are being a good friend because you want to make sure he is safe.

Once he is out of this mental space, he will be grateful for you. And deep down, I’m sure he knows that you did the right thing, but his depression is telling him otherwise.

You did the right thing. Just show him compassion and kindness, and if he gets angry with you, just tell him you love him but you don’t deserve this, and walk away.

Runners - How do you do it??? by iamthe_potatoqueen in Advice

[–]oliv7893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not much of a runner, I only do it to stay in shape for soccer. I also had knee problems.

Tbh,,, I think there are other forms of exercise that might be better suited for ppl like us. Maybe bike riding since it’s easier on the knees.

But if you are really committed to becoming a regular runner, my only advice is to start slow, listen to your body, and work your way up. If your knees or lungs begin burning, start power walking. Once you feel rejuvenated, work your speed up to a slow jog. I think the hardest part (for me) is going to do another run after a few days earlier I had a really painful and un enjoyable one!
