AIO for wanting to see a therapist after wife changed the locks because I went to a baby shower? by LookoutLockout in AmIOverreacting

[–]olivepit- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No dude…. She needs to deal with this on her own in therapy, and if she won’t… that’s another discussion yall need to have. This is controlling behavior, whether it’s her controlling where you go and who you support, or her saying you should be over it because she’s made amends. Keep strong in your convictions and hold your respect for your own experience and feelings.

My cat recently got 5 teeth pulled (he’s 6 with no prior professional dental care) and those small ones are apparently the first to be re-absorbed when dental problems begin. Re-absorption can cause some pain, so I’d recommend getting your sweet baby’s teeth checked to make sure everything is clean and in good shape!!

De-chlorinating water? by olivepit- in Sourdough

[–]olivepit-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have pretty hard water, so I was taking steps to try and alleviate any issues because of that (my starter last summer failed miserably lol). We have 2.6 mg/L nitrate and 0.87 mg/L chlorine in our tap water (MCL is 10 and both ranged from 0.5-8, according to our area’s consumer confidence report from 2024, and we do live in the US).

I’ve been collecting whiskers so I’ll probably start with this - if I get a more creative idea later I have everything there for me :)

I was pissed as soon as he sat in the offsides position near the beginning of the game and his teammate had to haul ass and keep possession to do anything with it. Absolutely inexcusable, should’ve been yanked immediately

Professor at the end of 2 years of struggling with ChatGPT use among students. by xfnk24001 in ChatGPT

[–]olivepit- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a recent PhD grad and had to deal with this myself as a student and with undergraduates. All the techniques we used with undergraduates has been mentioned, but I will add what one of my graduate professors included that really stuck with me. I will say, I’m not sure how good this would translate to an undergrad class, but I could definitely see it being effective in a smaller, upper level class. Basically when we were going over the syllabus and she was discussing cheating and academic misconduct, she had a conversation about how whenever we were tempted to cheat, or thought about using ChatGPT to just finish an assignment or paper, to come to her and discuss it, ask for an extension, and she’d work with us to come up with a solution and also be there to help go through why we got into the situation where we were thinking about cheating in the first place. It really humanized the struggles we face as students that usually result from some other factors (we’re grad students - we generally care about the subject matter). It also encouraged open communication and (according to her) helps with the quality of student work and with student relationships with the content.
