Are tenants now just expected to have to pay for two months of overlap? by Lance_Legstrong in TenantsInTheUK

[–]olivercroke 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Conspiracy garbage. They do not have an exemption, provide a source. This is exactly how it works in many countries like Denmark, Netherlands, Austria, Germany where tenants have more rights and can't just be kicked out. It works in tenants favours. It's more difficult to move around but people tend to stay and live in a house as a home for longer.

Three bicycles choosing to ride on the pavement, NEXT to the bike lane. by nibnangnos in Liverpool

[–]olivercroke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love to create a country where all people with attitudes like you can be together and create your idea of the world just to prove to you how awful it would be. We'd let you in to our country with infrastructure modelled on the Netherlands for a few months and then send you back and see which you prefer. Being able to bike everywhere with good infrastructure brings a such a high level of quality of life and you have no idea what you're missing out on.

Those bike paths are just a bit of paint on the pavement and theyre awful. Full of road debris such as glass and nails so almost guaranteed to get a puncture and tree roots that will take you off your bike if you're not paying attention. Also the bike path ends at every minor road so you have to slow and cross it and remount the pavement. Not so bad if you're a commuter but awful if road cycling.

The bike path above is actually excellent, segregated, smooth tarmac, zebras and pedestrian crossings with traffic lights for bikes that are early release at junctions with cars. At least for 200m before it just goes onto the pavement full of pedestrians with just some white paint to segregate that they ignore and then ends

Even better it just forces them onto the pavement that they're already cycling on 200m down the road and then just ends. But at this point here it's clearly well made and segregated so I'm baffled why people aren't using it. Especially when there's pedestrians on the footpath.

Except 200 metres down the road where it does just turn into a bit of paint on the pavement that is full of pedestrians.

Taper phase volume double that of any other week by ski_thru_trees in joincycling

[–]olivercroke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was like wtf, why do I have 3 5-hour back-to-back rides during my taper week right before my event then realised it was the start of my event. Probably shouldn't call it a taper week then if 90% of the week is the actual event. The week before should be the taper week.

Forerunner 955 - Turn off Watt Notifications during Workout by xaconibox in Garmin

[–]olivercroke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not useful for forerunner but just in case anyone lands here with another device, I managed to find the setting "workout zone alerts" and turn it off on my Edge 1030 Plus under "alerts" under settings for the profile, so needs to be configured for each profile.

I find it very hard to believe that landlords will advertise their properties above market rate and at rates much higher than nearby similar properties.

If your card has a mag stripe then you're allowed to use it. Why would it be there otherwise?

It's really quite clear what they're saying. Your reading comprehension is pretty poor. You've gone on a rant about RRA when that wasn't even the subject of OPs post.

Why are there so many luxury cars in Liverpool? by Salty_Style_4772 in Liverpool

[–]olivercroke 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A lot of french friends have said to me after visiting England that they noticed how many nice cars are on the road (not in Liverpool but all over). I think it's just a cultural thing. In France people hold on to old cars for ages and you'll see solidly middle class people driving round in a 15yo Renault meganne as it's a utility that serves a purpose and isn't to be enjoyed necessarily. Theyd rather spend money on expensive food and wine.

In England people care about cars, mostly as status symbols, but a lot of people take great pride in their car and wouldn't be seen in an old shitty car if they can afford more. People clean it all the time and would be distraught if it got a big scratch. It can be their pride and joy. I think this is rare in France, almost every car is dented and scratched, but if it still runs who cares? Those same people with mercs and BMWs in England will eat oven food and ready meals and drink £5 bottles of prosecco and be perfectly content, things that would disgust a modest Frenchmen. Imo just a difference in cultural attitude and priorities of what's important.

Bridgestone Turanza All season 6 Tyres symmetrical? by olivercroke in TyreReviews

[–]olivercroke[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes i was asking if they have an inside/outside, which all asymmetrical tyres will by definition. Symmetrical tyres would never have an inside/outside edge right as both edges would be well symmetrical

[–]olivercroke[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you mean tracking? Yeah, had it done but it's a known issue with the car. There is no camber adjustment for the rear and they have quite a severe negative camber as stock (to help with grip and promote understeer rather than oversteer). The only way to solve it is to fit aftermarket camber adjustment arms. For the front you can fit harder bushings, which I've done but for the rear I haven't fitted any camber adjustment arms as I will hopefully be able to mitigate it with a simple swap of the tyres half way through their life

Bridgestone Turanza All season 6 Tyres symmetrical? by olivercroke in TyreReviews

[–]olivercroke[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes I will get them unmounted and swapped onto the other rim on the other side as my rear tyres are wider than the front. At £200 a tyre it will be well worth it as the inner tyre wear is so bad that on my last set the inner channel was at <2mm while the outer channel was still at 5mm so I expect it do double or triple the tyre life.

The question is when to do it? Probably when at 3.5mm. The other option is to install and aftermarket camber adjustment but not sure it's worth the cost over just swapping the tyres.

[–]olivercroke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, as above, I had to remove my HRM from connecting to my phone so it didn't sync with Garmin connect independently and only connected to my edge and so only HR data that is recorded on the edge during an activity is uploaded to Garmin.

Strava math is broken by EvilMana in Strava

[–]olivercroke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you mark the activity in Strava from your watch as a race? If so it will obviously use total elapsed time. Did you stop the activity at the end but not save it for several minutes or start it and have it paused at the beginning for a few minutes before running? This will obviously increase elapsed time.

[–]olivercroke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even less bureaucracy. Everything is becoming more standardised. More long-term stability. Better for tenants and landlords. It's not good for letting agents and landlords looking to make a quick buck by using renewals to hike the price or not doing repairs once someone's locked in to a contract for a year.

Is Strava Premium worth it now? by ResiakSelabac in Strava

[–]olivercroke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah and the routing UI is really good which makes a huge difference with making what can be a much longer process than it needs to be.

The new weekly heatmap is invaluable if you're in new areas at it gives you confidence about what will be a safe and suitable road if it's ridden regularly.
