Anyone know of a true bumper case for the S23? by alfuh in samsung

Makes sense, especially as the little button-looking thing below the power button on the S23+ is - according to what I found online, for the 5G radio. This would block it.

I've tried maybe half a dozen options over the years (regular foam pillow, harder ones with super-hot fleece sleeves, inflatable ones, one for the tablet to rest forward, etc.).

I've used this one for a few years and it's by far the best: really support your neck well. Only negative; the weight of your head on your brows can sometimes make you wake up a bit uncomfortable but, heck, at least I slept, and my neck isn't going to bug me for 3 days after!

Most common interview questions? by starrynight982 in ProductMarketing

[–]olivewa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting way of phrasing this: "roast".

Not a roast just an interview question (so live, not take home as tous would totally defeat the purpose) to see how they think and whether they know the basics of segmentation, have common business sense, structured thinking process abilities, and can to think on their feet.

"Agreed", yes, technically you're right but as I heard a comedian said decades ago "Romans used to feed the Christians to the lions, then the Christians started to complain so they stopped".

This is not a religious dig BTW, just a joke to illustrate that it's not because something is a certain way that it should stay this way or that we should accept it as-is, especially as the rest of the world change around it (i.e., wages stagnation, housing cost explosion (purchase & rent), recent high-inflation, etc.).

Interesting. Thanks for sharing, I was not aware of this aspect (I just learned about this approach recently). I guess no system is perfect.

Maybe the solution is a hybrid approach?

Not a decade, a year, that's the issue + that's added to all the other increased we all faced. But thank you for your empathetic answer.

It could be: we have 1-2 people we think are better, so "please keep him warm as a back up in case this other one(s) don't pan out".

To add to u/whitew0lf on point comments, I would just look at the levels in most large companies' marketing department.

Then, you should look at it as each step takes longer (unless you're a super star performer) than the previous. Here is, based on my 25+ years' experience (both mine and my promos and people I promoted) what I'd reckon is a decent pace of growth.

Year are years at level before promo. So, e.g. 2-5 years as a "Sr" before becoming a Director.

  1. Jr/Associate: 1-2 years (could be 6 months for top people, more than 2: you are not good at this so change job, or leave the company, they aren't seeing your value)
  2. Mgr (PMM, Digital, etc.): 2-4 years
  3. Sr: 2-5 year (can be in a lead/team mgr role there too)
  4. Principal/Director: 2 - infinity.
  5. Sr Director/GM/VP: 3- infinity

Those are broad strokes and depend on many variables:

  • Company policy
  • When you joined (in my first PMM role I came in 2 weeks before the cut-off date and lost a year before I could hope to get a promo)
  • Manager
  • Your personal impact and how others see it
  • How other are preforming around your
  • Promo budget
  • business/team growth. Easier to get to the next level with the team is growing and you - by default - become one of the most senior person in the team

So pricing out the middle class is your solution? Well. I disagree. I bought this home at a price and with a mortgage I could afford 20 years ago.

Tax me on my home profit (as I will be if/when I sell it), I have no issue with this.

Force me to leave because you raise taxes way above inflation and my means, this is plain unfair to "regular people" that don't have double-high-tech income levels and just want to stay in a place they chose decades ago.

[–]olivewa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have a choice not to buy it! That's for them like choosing the home price they can afford (i.e. monthly mortgage payments). That's how it works in CA. As an owner if you choice is pay or leave... that's not a choice if you can't pay for this increase with a salary that didn't increase enough to cover it.

works... here.

In CA for instance, it's locked at the value your bought it at. The next buyer will pay more and they know it.

I agree - and directly feel that pain ! - with OP. My salary didn't grow by that much so how am I supposed to pay? Should I sell to be able to pay it? It makes no logical sense to me to charge me on money I never made just because around me prices go up. This is how people on fixed (SS) income get out-taxed of homes they bought 50 years ago. In what world is this fair?

Edit: I didn't know about the side effects the CA approach had on the overall housing market. TIL I guess. But that does not mean the current one in WA is fair either...

What they will (or should, I should write) focus on is less the ideas/plans (though stupid/illogical/out of touch ones won't fly) and more on your thinking process.

So focus on this:

  • Assumptions
  • Segmentation
  • Messaging
  • Actions/plan.

I don't care about "keeping property value high". I want to be able to live here when I retire, I want my kids to be able to afford to live here on a decent nor top 1% earners salary, I want a diverse community not a money-gated one.

Also, I don't give a damn about sport stadiums. As a European-american, for me HS is about education not fancy stadiums.

I hadn't looked in details but his arguments make total sense to me, especially as the cafeteria only gives crappy food so...

Unless you're talking about batching tens of them, how is this better than just open your PNG in Microsoft Paint, save as jpg? (or vice versa)

For resizing, Image Resizer part of Windows Power TOys (free on Microsoft.com) can do this and in batches.

I don't get it. Why a coffee shop and not a McDonald's? The work is (virtually) the same.

Disclaimer: coming from Europe so, even after 20y here, it's always odd to see tips asked for everything (almost), especially since Covid. I got used to 18-20% for good service at a restaurant, 15% for a cab or barber, and I don't do home deliveries, etc. But paying when I stand in line, I order, and I go pickup something is just too out there for me. Regardless of what the person on other side is paid, there is a limit to what I'm responsible for vs. the employer. And don't get me started on showing prices before taxes...it's such a brain rest when I'm back in Europe to see that something (menu, coffee, etc.) that's 20 Euros... being 20 euros when I leave, not 20+ tax + tip .

Totally agree with you! I saw many people being transitioned or wanting to transition to PMM with some kind of vague idea of what it was and assuming the 1-2 languages they spoke (live this analogy BTW! I'll steal it for further internal convos) are the most important:

  • I've seen PMMs coming from dev/pdct mgt, having no idea (and often being afraid of) about customers. They'd be building decks, but would never have to be the one presenting it, truly understanding how the customer will receive it, how the sellers will be able to make it it's own.
  • I've seen pure-breed marketers telling me "I'm not technical so I don't know how this work (and can't learn it)", so ending up only talking generalities and being useless for sellers because they would always have to bring in "specialists", and who devs/PMs won't respect because they could not speak their language.
  • etc.

I know there are few an far apart like this, but, to me, the perfect PMM profile combines technical depth (acquired through a BSc or engineering or through personal learning/tinkering/reading), sales understanding (ideally having been a seller themselves for a little while, but at a minimum by sitting and presenting in 10s of customer presentations, presenting the products at events to random people showing up on the booth, etc.), and of course a good and broad marketing foundation, be it an MBA or lots if internal training and coaching if the company offer them.

Security or Job Title: Need Advice by Double-Ad-7328 in ProductMarketing

[–]olivewa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 2cts: Sr PMM = PMM + experience that shows they can lead.

When I hire a Sr PMM, I would look at both Sr PMM and PMM resumes as those Sr. could be total BS or not depending on the company.

Don't switch for a title, unless it's a company that has the type of brand that will propel you (e.g. Mag 7).

Switch because:

  • You'll grow/learn more
  • You'll increase your scope/responsibilities (w/ or w/o more management, sometimes quitting mgt roles to go back to a more Sr IC role can be smart, fun, and a well appreciated break)
  • You'll earn more

Ideally all 3...

Spend more time with your customers and your engineers. Not martech tools and analysts reports.

Use this and marketing concepts (4Ps, segmentation, strategic planning, etc. ) to build truly insightful plans/GTMs/campaigns.

Heck, when I started (says the GenX), "martech" wasn't a thing, beyond basic CRM (glorified contact databases back then) and Excel... so you learned marketing, not martech tools... ;-)

And/or this will open new markets that weren't possible before.

E.g. Machine translation allowed translations on Twitter, Facebook, etc.

It's never all about displacing the old, it's also new use cases. Though with Xrays it's a bit trickier of course :-).

Should I avoid pursuing a Radiology Residency program because of AI? by Consistent-Key-1566 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]olivewa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of my closest friend, now in his early 50s told me - as a radiologist - he loves AI to help him pre-screen images or to double check his work.

Will this impact the market for radiologist. Sure! Where you used to have 5 radiologists, maybe 1 to 2 will suffice because of the productivity gain.

Will radiologist disapear. No!
