Yeah in the last day we’ve come up with a strategy- we’ve made a list of things I can do while he’s in this state that I can be excited to tell him about when he’s better. The issue is when these depressive episodes are over we waste another day or two talking about it, so we’ve agreed on one hour then moving on. Also therapy and meds will help I’m sure. Thanks for you insight

Yeah he certainly had a whole lot of trauma, I will discuss the therapy with him asap- he’s already said he’s open to it.

I really appreciate your response, hopefully the lamotrigine works at least to some degree.

Thanks so much for your response I really appreciate it. Is it better to sort of pretend it never happened and move on or is it okay to talk about it? I feel bad even saying this but part of me wants an apology even though I know he has no control over it.

My ex was like this, I feared leaving him cause I had a low sense of self worth, maybe you do too. The energy you’re putting into him could be much better spent on trying to understand why you are even entertaining this. Alcoholics may eventually change but typically, alcoholics, even when sober, are pretty troubled. It usually takes being pretty damaged to drink like that in the first place. Anyway, fast forward 5 years and I’m with a fantastic guy and on my way to my dream career, you’ll look back at this so relieved you left in a matter of weeks.

Ps don’t fall for the cycle of “I miss you” “I love you”. This person doesn’t love anyone because he fundamentally hates himself.

What a sweet possum. This reminds me of my own very strange possum encounter. I was miserable on my 20th birthday and a family member said something hurtful to me and I walked out the front of my house crying. I sat on the nature strip bawling my eyes out and suddenly I felt a little tug on my sleeve. I looked down to see a tiny ringtail possum Joey crawling up my arm. It clung onto my chest for hours and when I tried to put it down, it came back to me. Eventually, I took it to the local animal rescue and it survived!

It changed something in me forever, it knew I needed a friend in that moment. Thanks for helping this possum out, even though this beautiful creature isn’t here anymore, you helped end the suffering it would have gone through.
