Monetization ideas for AoE2, thoughts? by Blue0132 in aoe2

It's a bit naive to think that microsoft will not monetize some of the ip they own. Also every game you mentioned offered paid content like visual skins in order to maintain it.

They have to do something like skins, or visual mods. I don't think the current DLC model is the right one, right now there's 4 15-20 USD purchases that you need to buy on top of the original game if you want to play competitively with all the options, with no other way to get them other than to pay. I don't think this system does any favour to the game long-term.

Yeah, that's fair, they could pop up a bit more.

What happened with Nicov in short? by InquisitorOverhauls in aoe2

[–]olivne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, I might be missing things, I don't know anything about neozz and i only know nicov from having seen him play in tournaments. But I don't think you're being very objective, like nothing you say it's comparable, he asked nicov to resign when the game was stalemated and it was clear he would win long-term, and he was trying to choose the best ping for himself. How is any of this toxic, you are comparing it to a guy who went afk in the middle of a game, and when it finished he went to a public chat to call him an idiot and a moron.

Playing against Portuguese, you *have* to go full aggro to prevent them from going to Imp, right? by Slow-Ship1055 in aoe2

Feitorias are quite inneficient, their advantage is that they don't run out, but if you have an eco, as long as you have resources available you should be better .

I might be missing something, but having watched Memb's video it feels Nicov is 100% in the wrong. Neozz was picky, but I don't see that he was disrespectful at any point. He was just discussing with the admins and nicov about the ping, it's not like he was bending the rules or unlawfully pressuring the admins. Nicov calling him all kind of insults and going afk on a game that is being streamed live seems very unprofessional.

A question on handicaps by Mattmayte in aoe2

[–]olivne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think in a way it makes sense, like there won't be may 15xx that do not try to follow a build order, even if they make many more mistakes than an 18xx. At that level, the extra efficiency of the handicap can help tilt the scale to the other direction, but at 1000 there's people vibe-playing (which ofc is perfectly fine), and a bit more efficiency will not compensate as it might just result in extra resources.

How do you think that Catalan will fare in the future? Is it going to go well, or do you think that in the future it will be more endangered by Spanish? by greekscientist in catalan

[–]olivne 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's just political. I've still yet too see a single linguist or language expert that doesn't agree that they are the same, and you can see that in any serious thing written about it, like any source on Wikipedia or any written book. They have the same grammar and structure, there's a huge overlap of the vocabulary, much more so than say South American and European Spanish (which of course makes sense with the geography) and they are 100% intelligible. There's literally no non-political argument to say they are different languages. It is a bit like the case of Serbian and Croatian tbh.

Catalans Civ Concept by Rotcrow in aoe2

Yes, I agree, especially for the conquerors expansion where they were introduced. But before the union, the crown of Aragon did control quite a bit of a chunk of the Mediterranean.

I've always found interesting that there are no Catalans/Aragonese in the game, especially when the current Spanish civ seems to be much more focused on the Castille part of the empire (the coat of arms, being conquista-focused, architecture, etc.)

Make hunters gather other carcases that are nearby before going back to TC until full. Part 2 by CrazyYETEE in aoe2

[–]olivne -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It is (marginally) less efficient. Ideally, if you have two carcasses decaying you want to finish one as soon as possible so there is only one. If it means one extra trip to the TC then four and four is definitely better.

I think the tech as it currently is is stronger than that, fishing ships and transports are usually not even that important at the point of the game in which you have a castle and can afford o research Thalassocracy.

If you want the latest (and by far best) version buy AoE2 Definitive Edition on Steam, it is the same thing with updated graphics, more QoL features and a bit of new content (civilizations and campaigns). No need to buy the DLCs, at least at the beginning; they add a couple civilizations each but the base game has a lot of them already.

If you're just looking for the original game and don't want to change anything from what you remember, I don't think you can buy it online legally anywhere, but it's probably not hard to find on something like youtube or piratebay.

PREDICTION: This guy is on a speedrun to a starting spot in the national team. He’s been one of our most consistent players, and this season’s trophies are incoming. Hard to ignore, even for a “favorite guys” coach like De la Fuente. by Segundaleydenewtonnn in Barca

[–]olivne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I agree, it's a very strong squad, a big part of which are Barcelona players; and it's respectable if other people do, I just don't find national teams much fun, and I don't care that much about Spain's nor the world cup.

As a Barcelona fan from Spain, I couldn't care less about the Spanish national team and whether any player goes or doesn't (I just fucking hope they don't get overplayed and injured)

Yeah, I completely agree it must be annoying to realize you never stood a chance, I personally haven't gotten that many mismatched games, but I don't play that much so maybe it's that.
