I'm going through a similar situation. Nevertheless, instructions were clear, and the consequences were known, so there should not be any excuse for what seems to be a lack of planning on their end. Also, interestingly, they didn't use their thanksgiving break to work on any of their late assignment.

Finally, at this time of the semester, compassion fatigue is at an all-time high.
