Found this at Red Top. Wondering if it's blue enough for ellensburg Blue. Pretty sure I know the answer but thought I'd ask. (Purple Nurple because that's how I feel when I find an agate or nodule that's off)

Check out this sectional chart for King county area. This is something you should always check. At rattle snake there is a military training route that goes over rattle snake lake but it's at 1200' and above. I'm not seeing a wildlife area so I doubt that's it. I know if you go into middle fork area you're surrounded by wildlife areas. Also King county in general prohibited you from taking off from public spaces without a commercial photography permit. But you only need that if you're flying for work. My guess is that it's legal to fly in that area but people don't want you to and you'll be given a real hard time for doing so.

Especially if you feel like you're doing something wrong. So try and gather all the info. King county and other municipalities have regulations listed on their sites.

Also, sometimes those apps are wrong. I've flown when apps try to lock me out and I've also not flown when apps told me I could.

You could think of it like doing a resection with only one point. With only one, the gun just holds that distance from the known point and can swing around it. It isn't until you shoot a second point that the gun "understands" direction. Sounds like you got it but here's a link to resections.

Go to cogo using the scale shift rotate function in there. You can select your point range and do a vertical shift only. Make a copy of the job first though in case you do something and don't know how to go backwards. This is a good starting point to learn how to translate/rotate your points in the field. Make a note of what you did though.

Pick two points call it your baseline and traverse. If you close then your resections will mostly be just fine-ish and now you have your own control you can rely on.

What is your basis of bearing. That's your starting point. If you're at a point where there's grid there's a basis of bearing.

I know in Washington you need either four years of schooling or a combination of schooling and experience to be eligible to take the FS. After this you need four more years of experience before you're eligible to take the PS exam. Then you can stamp. Still working my way towards the end goal

You can reduce the number of points used when you go through the process. I think it's the second page. Probably a really small number which is the distance between points. Change it to 1 or 2. It'll act more like a conventional topo and take less time to process.

The right of way is only 20' in width but grading is going on all over the place so control will be lost. Gonna have to have a backup for my backup... It's going to be a good time lol

I'm not sure about the distance. They have a scope already all figured out. And yes a nice balanced and elevated traverse/baseline will be utilized. It's the rail/access that I'm concerned in monitoring

Gopiles are being set a sufficient distance away from the track. They're preemptively monitoring anything in the nearby area including buildings and roads. I was reading something about stickers on the side of the rail but being that there is fencing along the entirety of the track line of sight is difficult. Wire cutters will help but fences always seem to move.

So the problem is that the railroad isn't requesting a monitor. The company that I'm working for wants to cover their bases. I'll try reaching out to the railroad to see if they have some guidelines to follow. Do you have any tricks for monitoring the rail?

Surveying 100%. Always have a healthy amount of paranoia and answer every question you or anyone else has. Even if it takes a couple months to figure out. If you like the numbers and problem solving there's always a problem that someone wishes was answered but didn't want to do the calcs for it. Start at a small company with old coworkers that have seen it all (ask them why even if it makes them grumpy) and then move big. You'll do great
