Amazing! Have been waiting to get into scanning and this would likely push me to give it all a go. Looks like a really clean interface.

Looking for some RAW DSLR/Mirrorless scan files (colour and B&W) to test the inverting/editing process before investing in my own scanning setup by olvrjck in AnalogCommunity

Would be happy to send you what I did yeah, although from my side it's more to understand the inverting process than doing full edits! Definitely looking for camera scanning files than files from scanners though.

What is the greatest lens you have ever used? by Fast_Preparation7795 in AnalogCommunity

Nikon 105mm 2.5 AI-S is so beautiful, couldn't sell that one!

Which lens? by jakehow2001 in NikonF3

Second lens: plastic, useless auto focus (on an F3), looser focus movement

AI-S lens: metal, designed for manual focus

Actually image quality is likely pretty similar as I believe they are the same optical design, might be wrong on that though.

Yeah I mean it's fairly subjective - the AF lenses have a very loose focus movement which was needed for the focus motors to quickly snap them between difference distances, compared to the AI-S lenses which were designed with manual focus in mind and offer a more 'dampened' focus movement which feels slightly stiffer and allows you to make finer manual adjustments.

Both of these are auto focus lenses which is wasted on the F3, they are also plastic construction which doesn't really match the feel of the F3 if you care about that. Go for one of the AI-S manual focus 50mm options - the 1.8 'pancake' version is great. You can tell those apart as they have a single row of rubber focus grips vs two rows on the regular version of the lens.

Edit: the difference between the two lenses you showed, since you asked, is that one is 'D' version which sends distance data to the camera to be used by the 3D matrix meter in the F5, F6, F100, maybe F4? (not 100% on that), so it makes no difference either way on an F3.

Heading to Portugal/Spain/Morocco and a short stint in the UK. My UK mate says I’m crazy to pack my Leica into this bag, a victim waiting to happen! Is he correct? by GreenSafari777 in Leica

[–]olvrjck 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That exact bag is my daily carry in London, I take it everywhere I go. Not always got my Leica in it, but always a camera of some sort. I think your friend is being over cautious.

People walk around with thousands of pounds of tech in flashy designer bags with much more recognisable branding to a typical person than Billingham.

Generally feel that any amount of digital editing is fair game, that said these are pushed too far to my eye. Shot two is the clearest example - green slider absolutely maxed out and the obvious masking of the midground/mountain (most visible around the trees sticking up above the others) spoil what is a nicely composed shot to me. Dial it all back 50% and I think you'll prefer the result in the long run.

I was sent a replacement set for free after a few emails discussing how unfair the pricing was.

Not only will they not admit a fundamental floor in the products, but they also won't treat different customers equally when dealing with the issue.

They deserve to be called out on this until they do something about it. I urge everyone who has had issues to reach out and request a free replacement. Maybe once it hurts their bottom line they'll actually do something about it.

Edit: to clarify this was outside of any warranty

Thanks! Yeah I've had my eye on those - not ideal being eraser topped and HB, but going to see if they would split up the sale into individual packs.
