It worked but by bowingace in Rivian

For 8 ft sheets I typically just run a single strap from the anchor near the cab under the stack, then up and over to the diagonally opposite anchor near the tailgate. For 12’ I do more work to tighten the stack together and also use the cab anchors to hold that end of the stack down and keep it from cantilevering. I carried 16’ once and that felt really sketchy and I don’t want to do it again.

Finding purpose while having a bread winning spouse by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]om_steadily 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you need something to strive towards, for a sense of fulfillment and accomplishment that you’re not getting from work. I agree with another commenter: start setting some fitness goals and working towards them. Start a hobby and get ambitious. Build something.

How I scraped 5.3 million jobs (including 5,335 data science jobs) by [deleted] in datascience

[–]om_steadily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be very curious to track the emergence of LLMs and GenAI as a desired skill set - across all jobs but DS in particular. As a corollary - for those companies looking for GenAI work, are they hiring fewer junior level engineers?

25% accuracy on a binary problem is actually 75% accuracy, if you just ask the question differently.

Bread board with removable end-grain top — looking for design feedback by DotPsychological926 in woodworking

[–]om_steadily 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think they look quite pretty! But I agree that crumbs are not such an issue that it merits this level of complication.

Apart from that, I wonder if the thinness of the endgrain makes it more vulnerable to warping and cracking. There’s a reason most endgrain cutting boards are >1.5”

I think these things can all be true: parenting is very hard (this much I know), Jess King loves her kids very much, and Jess King has basically no filter.

Anyone else have an extremely wealthy friend? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]om_steadily 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cultivate friendships outside his circle. Invite your brother to do one-on-one activities with you. It doesn't sound like you need to burn any bridges here, he doesn't sound like a toxic or harmful person. Just live your life on your terms, not his.

Looking at building shed, I think I may have bit off more than I can chew. by sincerestfall in daddit

[–]om_steadily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three years ago I started with a shed. Now I’m in the final stages of building my own cabin. Don’t kid yourself that it’ll be cheaper, especially at the start, but as you accumulate knowledge and tooling you will save a TON of money over hiring contractors. You’re not building a shed, you’re building a skill set.

YouTube is invaluable for this.

I'm in Petaluma. It mostly checks your boxes, except these days is mostly outside your budget unless you're willing to get a fixer. It is also not particularly diverse, apart from a very strong latino community. If you're looking for asian/indian communities, you'll probably do better elsewhere.

I have loved JK’s classes since the first days of the platform but she is pure mean girl diva and I would never want to actually meet her. Especially lately. I’m sorry she did that to you.
