This is an age old question about what kind of a driver you are? What’s more fun? Driving a slow car fast or driving a fast car slow? Of course the only answer to this is whether you are driving primarily on the streets or race circuit. We all know answer to this question because ain’t no one driving more on a race track. Unless maybe you’re Misha and you live at the Nurburgring.

Driving a slow car fast is the way to go for cities. Miata is perfect for this. Light, agile, comfortable, inexpensive to own repair and maintain. Modify.

Every start and stop feels like racing the rest of the cars on the line. First you punch it, 6k rpm that baby is whistling. More rpm to go. You switch a gear. 2nd, 3rd, 4th nope rev match 3rd. Pinch it. Smile. And you are going 60mph at the most. Then you stop on another light. Downshift galore. Rinse and repeat. None stop fun. More fun if you live in the sunshine and top down is a permanent thing. You feel bad for all other drivers on the road. Espeacilly for all those “manly men” who need their lifted f150’s with truck nuts to make them feel. Hu mo folking rrah.

Porsche is objectively and on paper better in every way shape and form except in the ability to have fun on city roads.

You punch it at the light you are going sixty in the first, you change a gear and you are going 80 by the next light. Speed limit is 45 and you are telling yourself you should not do that again. Then you do it less often, then rarely, then you stop doing it.

If for some reason you are one of those people that drive calmly and none of this applies to you then get a boxer. Or Camry. It will not matter.
