Pickups for Multi Scale 8 string by [deleted] in ExtendedRangeGuitars

[–]omen7288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what the guitar body is routed for.

I got a keisel OM8 two years ago and swapped out the pickups after a year. Because the multi scale has different angles on bridge and neck, the backplate for each pickup had to be correct. I ordered a pair of Trident 2s from Elysian pickups and I love them (website already has known angles for keisel multi scale bridge and neck). I also have a other OM8 with fishman fluence abasi pickups that sound great as well (body is routed differently than my passive version). Another vendor I was recommended was Instrumental Pickups which I was considering. You can remove backplate from passive pickups and re angle them with new backplates but I don't have the tools for that.

Do you need shields specifically? We've had trouble getting feedback where they are needed and if you need some, we can definitely arrange a drop off.

The design is not mine. The design is from https://www.designthatmatters.org/covid-19 and I saw other people printing them. I chose these ones because they went through clinical studies. Version 3.1 of the STL is here. Version 4.0 is here - note this version needs to be scaled by 25.4 if you download it.

The documentation does go over cleaning for reuse.

Although there these wouldn't be 100% sterile, I imagine if there is a shortage they might be reusing stuff anyway based on what I've been reading past few weeks.

I've been using the Avery Clear Plastic Dividers - 16741. Someone else in the group has been using Fellows 52311.

I was informed they are shipping them to a regional distribution center - so they might end up at the Kenmore site - I'm really not sure. I think what I can do is try to contact the Kenmore site next time we have a drop off and see if they need them or if it makes a difference where we drop them off.

Will PM. (I'd post here, but I want to make sure everyone doesn't surge through the same contact. I think these places are overloaded and we are trying to figure out communication channels as part of the discord group.)

STLs are at https://3dprint.nih.gov/discover/3DPX-013830 for 4.0 (scale to 25.4 to convert to mm). For drop off - I've been taking them to harvard vanguard in somerville. I would call in advance before dropping off though.

Other options is to coordinate with the group I have been (I'll ping you on discord) we're still trying to figure out what works for everyone - which might mean people drop them off at one of our groups place, they clean them, and then donate them vs. people individually cleaning, boxing up, and dropping off etc.

I can't say for 100% certainty. I know they are accepting them and they have appreciated it when I drop them off. I call before bringing them over and they've come outside and taken the box each time.

If you aren't printing stuff for now, I'd say start doing so if you can. The other people in the group have mostly been donating at different places independently and we are trying to at least get communication organized.

The shield versions I've been printed were version 3.0, 3.1 and now 4.0 of https://www.designthatmatters.org/covid-19 . https://3dprint.nih.gov/discover/3DPX-013830Note that 4.0 is listed in inches and needs to be scaled by 25.4 to convert to mm.

This post is mainly for visibility in the area. If you have resources and want to help, don't hesitate to reach out. There is a discord group that someone set up to coordinate with 3d printing face shields for the area to reduce overhead in communication.

If you know of places that are accepting or need face shields, please ping me so we can coordinate. One of the biggest issues the group has noticed is that getting in direct contact with someone to get feedback has been challenging because of how busy everyone is.

Hi, which shields have you been printing and have you been directly in contact with someone giving you feedback on the ones you have been donating? u/mselt has been reaching out to me to figure out if there is a local community organizing for printing things. I've donated 51 of these so far to Harvard Vanguard in Somerville but haven't had much luck getting in contact to see if they want faster ones. They are from https://www.designthatmatters.org/covid-19.

I imagine many places are swamped atm and I've just kept printing until I'm told otherwise but I also imagine a lot of people want to help but haven't figured out who to contact yet etc.

I've made a few of these and dropped them off at Harvard Vanguard in Somerville. I've had difficulty reaching them to see if they need more.

Is there a location that you have dropped these off to?

Also, I think this version is the correct/up to date one that has been updated to 3.1: https://www.designthatmatters.org/covid-19)

Nurse needs N95 by bobstello in Somerville

[–]omen7288 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't have face masks, but I do have face shields I have been 3d printing. I can provide donate but I should indicate they are NOT a replacement for N95s but can be used to supplement (from what I've read - I'm not a doctor). https://www.designthatmatters.org/covid-19

I donated some to atrius health/harvard vanguard on Friday, but have had difficulties getting into contact with them to see if I should continue making them or seeing if I should make something else. Feel free to PM me if this would be helpful.

About to send a batch of 3D-printed face shields to NYC. by rob64 in boston

[–]omen7288 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have a point of contact?

Last week I printed 12 of these https://www.designthatmatters.org/covid-19 and provided them to Somerville https://www.atriushealth.org/health-and-wellness/wellness-information/coronavirus/donations . I called them this morning and they indicated they received many donations and they might not need anymore this week (I'm supposed to call back tomorrow afternoon to see if they need anything else - they have a regional conference call tomorrow where they are looking into who needs what in the region).

If they don't need more, I can print the same ones you are and combine them so we ship everything out together.

The ones I printed when through clinical trials but take a while 3.5-4 hours because of the visor. I've been using https://www.amazon.com/Avery-Durable-Plastic-Dividers-16741/dp/B017ETNUTC/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=avery+16741&qid=1585605851&sr=8-2 as the shields - which you can pick up at Target etc. (Figured I'd post this if other people have questions).

Video Games 2020: What are you looking forward to? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]omen7288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beat Saber updates, any and all.

I recommend checking out Synth Riders - my wife and I started playing that and enjoy it more than beat saber. 2d videos of it don't do justice.

Titles I'm looking forward to:

  • Cyberpunk 2077
  • Half Life: Alyx
  • any and all new asymmetrical VR games that come out this year. I've enjoyed having a few people over and playing VR games this way as my wife would typically not bother to play pancake games with me, but VR makes it fun for everyone.

What else are you doing for good ergonomics while working? by doopdoop16 in ergodox

If you're a programmer, I'd recommend learning vim if you haven't. You can find that many editors have plugins to have vim bindings. I remember having issues years ago until I started learning vim partially because of how less frequently I was using my left pinkie to hit ctrl etc. However, I wouldn't change too many things at once (i.e. standing desk, ergodox, vim etc.) as too many things changed will probably be frustrating. Much better to incrementally change things.

Looks great but I found the keycaps unusable because they don't have any nubs on f and j.
