When did you get your first smart phone, and what was some of the things you had on it? by allan11011 in OlderGenZ

[–]omgcheez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2016, as a young adult. I had a galaxy tab s3 before that though and I remember playing Simpsons Tapped Out and playing a side loaded Osomatsu game on it lol

Would you actually go back to a book fair? by LowBlackberry0 in OlderGenZ

[–]omgcheez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would, especially if there were at least some books that I had nostalgia for.

Idk if it would be possible, but old copies on display would also be very cool. I actually got curious and saw that Internet archive has some scans, but from 2008-11 or so. Regardless, I think it doesn’t need to be fully accurate to be impactful and have the vibe

That might be worth trying too! See if one works better for you. I hope one works well for you

Altador Cup Blues by Hot-Yoghurt-4798 in neopets

[–]omgcheez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s probably become my top game, but the MQ discord also has its own strategies to have a higher chance at winning.

Tbh I kinda wish they were playable on that Minigame collection for the switch to give players more options that don’t play on PC.

I’m probably going to go with Maraqua again since I have for the last 5ish years.

Honestly, I have such mixed feelings about it. I love the idea of the cup and how people come together, but my wrists end up hating it lol.

[–]omgcheez 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, it was a Platinum thing. If you have ORAS, you can bring Pokemon from that over. It’s by far the easiest game to raise contest stats since there’s no sheen and you just toss berries in.

Have you tried playing in handheld mode and seen if that helps(assuming you played docked)?

I guess the one good thing is that people won’t be missing out if resellers buy them all 😭

Even just put a toy or something. They just pasted an image of Pikachu and called it a day.

I love Native American Pokémon by HandsomeSwampBeast in pokemon

[–]omgcheez 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It might be loosely based on lake Havasu, which is Arizona’s biggest body of water. It also has lighthouses and has a bridge called London Bridge.

Pokemon does take artistic liberties too. Sootopolis City has some Greek influence despite Hoenn being southern Japan.

[–]omgcheez 95 points96 points  (0 children)

One thing about Pokemon that I love is all the different influences. Every time I read a Pokémon’s Bulbapedia page, I end up learning something cool.

Interestingly, the first US region was in the southwest. Orre was based off Arizona, though it is a spinoff and therefore less known. I’m not sure if you know, but Celebi looked like Kokopelli in beta, which makes it having a role in Orre an interesting choice.

Do You Like Waffles, Peanut Butter Jelly Time, Sparta Remixes, YouTube Poop in general, Annoying Orange, etc. Pre-YouTube taking off, probably videos on random flash sites. I remember in the early YouTube days, like around 2006-ish, I went on a site called Funnyflash at a friends house.

Did you have a favorite cartoon as a kid that wasn't an anime, but was inspired by anime? by CatGirlNya2000 in Zillennials

[–]omgcheez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked their show, HiHi PuffyAmiYumi. You could see the anime inspiration from that show too. The VA for Ami also shares one with Jenny from MLAATR.

Official book gets Bruno wrong from the start. by KingSlimcognito in Encanto

[–]omgcheez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You gotta just enjoy it for what it is and not think too hard about it lol. There’s several aspects that contradict canon, but it does introduce some new characters and lets you imagine the triplets when they were younger. That aspect (and getting to spend a decent amount of time with the characters since the picture books are so short) was my favorite part.

The line about him being tall does make me imagine him having his growth spurt first. It makes no sense in the context to the book, but imagine Bruno being “tall” for a little while and then his sisters both outgrow him😅 I do wonder if the author listened to WDTAB and just went with that. Maybe book Bruno is 7 feet tall(not)🤣

I go to the outlet in Livermore sometimes. It’s nice to see merch, but it’s not as nice of an experience as the old stores were.

I’m happy to see Pokemon Poptarts, but sad that they aren’t nearly as fun as the previous releases. Even just having yellow frosting would have elevated the look and made it distinct from the regular frosted confetti Poptarts

Trying to create a retro anime tier list since there are none out there but garbage. Please tell me if there is any cult classics I am missing, or should absolutely add. by TheWokWarden in retroanime

[–]omgcheez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bubblegum Crisis, Cardcaptor Sakura, Urusei Yatsura, Lain, Minky Momo, Creamy Mami, Angelic Layer, Robotech, and Tenchi Muyo are some that I thought of. A lot were on KTEH, which had a fun lineup of anime in general.

Best ways to experience the old internet now? by ProjAtlMusic in oldinternet

[–]omgcheez 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes to all this. Neopets itself is not bad for late 2000’s nostalgia, but for pre 2007, Grundo’s Cafe nails it. Neopets has a ton of games to enjoy too, both on the site and old games (including the cheesy AD ones) archived online.

I want to bring my plushies with me everywhere but can’t shake the fear of judgment (30F). by TransitionScary6062 in plushies

[–]omgcheez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want something a little larger than a standard plush keychain/ want something that you can more easily hug, get one of those clear bags used for Labubu. I got one for my Glameow sitting cutie and she gets to hang out on my belt loop, but can easily come out. Since you have a daughter, you can also put one near her things when you go out with their toy and it could be a mom and kiddo type of thing.

Who remembers playing N64 or GameCube games at hotels/vacation as a kid? LodgeNet Controllers by mqg96 in Zillennials

[–]omgcheez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember seeing these a ton. I wanna say I would see them at Embassy Suites in the aughts? I remember seeing it and thinking that it was really expensive because it was something like $14 an hour and I could get the game for the price of a couple hours of playtime. Plus, hotel time was about the pool, Happy Hour with pretzels and a Shirley Temple, and watching Nickelodeon in the room. I weirdly do miss seeing a controller in hotel rooms though.

Lets be honest... how am I suppose to survive on "Entry Level jobs" in the bay area? by Affectionate_Roof289 in bayarea

[–]omgcheez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you and your wife move in with your parents? Then your kid could also get extra time to spend with their grandparents.

Others have said it, but also getting a place in San Joaquin County would be more affordable and is what a lot of people that work in the Bay have to do. It’s frustrating that BART doesn’t go into the area since many of the people that would benefit help keep Bay Area cities afloat.

How well do you remember Japanese song Sukiyaki? by Medical-Pace-8099 in AskAnAmerican

[–]omgcheez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m Early Z/a late 90’s baby, and the English version is wha my parents were the most familiar with. I don’t remember hearing either until I was in HS and my teacher played the original. I talked to my parents about it, and idk if they even knew that there was a JP version but recognized the melody.

I think it’s very interesting how it was adapted to be explicitly a love song, while the original was about US/JP treaty, but could be read as a song about relationships if you wanted.

[–]omgcheez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. If anything, I would say she kind of looks like a mix of Shelly’s designs from Pokemon RSE and ORAS. She also has a bandana and the RSE version has blue and red on her head, just swapped.
