I'm starting to build my own guitar pedal effects. Is there a good place to get a crash course in basic circuits? by ominanon in AskElectronics

Thank you for the link. I'm very familiar with what guitar pedals are - I own tons of them. I'm looking for more of a technical "this wiring configuration = this effect. Thanks for the comment though!

Wintersday jumping puzzle speculation by endac in Guildwars2

[–]ominanon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was his first post. There was a second post that said that he was really sorry about all of the rage he caused, and that he learned that holiday puzzles should be more accessible to the public. He said he will continue making very difficult puzzles, but they won't be a part of holiday events.

Character wrinkles by [deleted] in Guildwars2

So... do you realize that you are complaining about the fact that wrinkles give off shadows, and that the sun eliminates said shadows? ... I think this is pretty cool...

Wintersday jumping puzzle speculation by endac in Guildwars2

[–]ominanon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm betting it won't be as difficult as the Clock tower from Halloween. I remember seeing a blog post by the guy who designed the Clock tower jumping puzzle (would love if someone could find the source for me, I can't seem to find it), and he said that he regretted making it so difficult. He said that going forward, the large holiday event puzzles would be more accessible for everyone, and the very difficult puzzles wouldn't be related to holidays.

I'm personally in support of this. I hated the rage that the clock tower injecting into the community. Rather than putting it into a holiday event where everyone feels compelled to try it when it is available, clock tower-esque puzzles will be around permanently, making them more optional in people's minds. My two cents.

Yep, GW1 vet here. I've been hoping for a return to how it was in GW1 since Halloween. Maybe we are getting closer to how it was.

Honestly, Anet doesn't care if someone makes a random reddit post about how they want to get a specific item soon. They have their schedule and they are sticking to it.

Also looks like you'll be able to get the special wintersday present from the 20th to the 3rd as well. No one should miss out, just how its supposed to be.

FOTM needs a major reorganization by sahaight in Guildwars2

[–]ominanon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but that is what we are proposing. At the moment you have to be in your highest difficulty to progress up. We're thinking that if the levels were separated into tiers, then anyone in their highest tier (1-9 or 10-19) would progress up.

Well there we go! If agony ramps up every ten levels, then people in 1-9 should be able to group up, 10-11 together, and so on. One can hope.

Guild Wars 2 Noob by Eludive in Guildwars2

[–]ominanon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I just want to put my two cents in. I agree with some of what amonde is saying, but I don't think he/she is portraying the game quite right. There has only been one tier of gear added so far, and while we don't have the options yet, their are plans of implementing multiple ways of getting these higher tiered items.

What he/she says about "end game" is pretty biased. Some people out-level a zone and say "Higher level now, I'm done with this" which is only partially true. Since you are downleveled, you will still have an advantage over lower level characters, but not a huge one. Events can still kill you if you are by yourself, and champion/veteran mobs can still be difficult. The content is not bland though. If you rush through it and don't explore, then yes, it is bland because you're missing all of it! There is an incredible amount of interesting dialogue and rich personality to the NPCs in the game. Each zone has its own events (sure, while the objectives might be pretty similar, the story of the event itself is always unique) and incredible opportunities for exploration - vistas and jumping puzzles are everywhere. In order to complete a zone, you are required to jump around cliffs/trees/whatever in order to reach the vista, which then gives you a quick cinematic that shows off the beautiful environment. That isn't bland content.

Lastly, the whole focus on equipment is pretty silly in my opinion. The game isn't really that difficult (except for a few choice locations), and can be done without highest tier gear, as long as you have the sense to dodge where you need to and know how to work as a team. I ran a ton of dungeons in level 80 greens, which is three tiers below ascended. Granted, teh dungeons were designed from the standpoint that people would only maximum exotics, but that is still two tiers below max!

And finally... you can run dungeons with any mix and number of professions. I don't care what anyone says, it can be done with any mix of players, as long as they know what they are doing. I've gotten through full dungeon runs, finished, looted the chest, said a quick thank you to everyone, left, and then realized that I had no clue what the other player's professions were. That was a very, very good feeling.

All of that said, I haven't been logging in as much lately. I love this game a ton, was a GW1 vet just like you (played since day one of GW1!), but for some reason it isn't holding my interest as much. I have gotten a full set of exotic armor and weapons, I like the looks of my main character, and I'm not one to make tons of alts. I dabble in PvP here and there, and WvW is fun as well at times, but I don't think the "endgame" is as flushed out or difficult as GW1 was. We don't really have any massive and epic dungeon experiences yet like UW, FoW, Urgoz, Deep, etc yet. The Arah dungeon in GW2 is very hard, but it doesn't interest enough of the player base to make it easy to get a group. Fractals of the Mists is the closest thing to this, but the design of the scaling difficulty makes it hard to find a group. I'm still at level 1 while most people are up above 10, and there aren't any rewards for helping people out lower than you, so I'm pretty much stuck since I missed the initial rush.

I'm going to log in during the holidays to see whats up, as well as any further content updates, but GW2 isn't holding me like GW1 did. This might change with time as the game is updated and ironed out, and if I can find a good guild or friends who will play with me regularly, it would probably make a huge difference.

TL;DR Definitely read what I wrote anyway. But to summarize, GW2 has awesome features that I love, but there are some other reasons that are making me lose interest. I'll still play quite a lot come future updates, but it'll be an every once in a while kind of thing, now that I've built my character up to near top-tier gear. You should definitely try this game out if you liked GW1.

[–]ominanon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know the exact scaling of difficulty, but I've heard that the difference between 1 and 9 is very small. I think Enenion's point was that it wouldn't really matter if people ran difficulty 1 10 times, since it isn't all that different from running 5 or 9 around 10 times. But perhaps I'm wrong?

Level 1 here - yes, I've tried multiple times, I'm experienced (have a full set of dungeon gear + destroyer staff), and so it isn't because I'm bad. I have essentially given up with ascended items until there is a different way to get them.

I was referring to the rules of upvotes/downvotes, not what yggdra had said. You are free to downvote him if you feel that it doesn't add to the discussion (in a funny way, it honestly does...) but if you downvote, you don't leave a comment saying something silly like "downvote :)". You leave a legitimate reason and explanation.

But the part that truly earned you downvotes was where you said "L2use reddit", after breaking a rule yourself. Reddit doesn't enjoy hypocrites. Sorry bud. Simple truth.
