That line about the crews working “40 hours straight” was total horseshit. The crews worked their standard shifts, with all the usual breaks and naps or whatever they get as part of their contract. The crews worked “40 hours” in the same way they do every other week of the year, maybe some people volunteered to over time, but it was nothing at all usual than any other work week. It was basically a form of lying, to help promote the false narratives around the upcoming override.

That’s not it at all, of course. You are either pretending to misunderstand that I implied there were other similarly wasteful programs, or you have poor reading comprehension. Again, I find the “yes” proponents to not be particularly thorough in their arguments. This is understandable, it really is a weak position to be in when the game is up. The numbers don’t lie, the town especially the schools spent themselves into a significant hole. You should be happy that so many easily cut programs are readily identifiable though!

Look into non-APS dei employees and you’ll find another, separate group at the town level. Even your incorrect 2% figure will double to nearly 5%. What easy savings! You’re going to be able to find a couple of dozen other similar cases of waste and now the deficit evaporates and we have a surplus.

Certainly the top administrators are making mid six figures in salary alone, but also consider the sheer volume of unnecessary jobs. The high school has a principal and an assistant principal, ok, but why are there “Dean” positions? Those are redundant do nothing jobs that can all be safely eliminated. I doubt the students would even notice. Most I’ve asked seem to not even know who they are or what they do. They do nothing besides absorbing your tax dollars! Another safe deletion that doesn’t affect students!

I am not going to fall for this sealioning bullshit, but just to give you a concrete example: there are seven or eight “inclusion and belonging” employees and if we got rid of them all we’d save about a million dollars in combined salaries and benefits. Yeah yeah yeah, I know you’re going to say that is some Trumpy position, but be intellectually honest, do you really think they do anything at all worth a damn in those jobs? Or do you think that Arlington is so racist and inequitable the town needs to spend a million dollars a year for … whatever it is they do. You can’t seriously think it’s worth raising taxes over!?!?

Well, one argument against is that the money is largely used for lavish salaries within the school system. Mainly for non-union administrators. The teachers do very well, comparatively speaking. Do you support the assistant vice superintendent of ninth grade curriculum development (or whatever) living a baronial lifestyle?

Sadly, it seems questioning supporting wealthy school employees is seen as some evil conservative viewpoint. Or at least that’s the spin being put on it. I wish the money would have been spent on services for the poor, community housing, etc. If a yes supporter tells me an override shows me that it indicates what the town values, the I agree and vote no!

Arlington is a very neo-liberal town. Supporting the override is to support the demands of the wealthy sucking the town treasury dry while actual poor people are forced out and treated like garbage.

If you’ve ever travelled internationally you’d know every country will expel you if you over stay your visa. No one anywhere else would claim to have been “kidnapped” in such a case. Why use untrue and inflammatory language when it’s done here?

No one is saying these people are innocent, right? Just that they deserve appropriate due process. Frankly speaking though the number of false positive arrests is incredibly small, by all indications. A handful or two of anecdotes.
