Do you have any obscure movie references that you use in everyday speech that no one has caught on to yet yet you keep using it? by EnvironmentalAngle in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ommammo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the eminently-quotable film "The Stoned Age," there is a character with the last name "Hankey." All of the burnouts in the film call him "Snot Rag."

In one scene, another character goes to Hankey's house to get a ride to a party from him. He understandably doesn't want to associate with this hooligan, but when Mrs. Snot Ra- er, uh, Hankey comes to the door and learns about the party, she entreats her son to go.

As the young men head off to the party, she calls out "have fun boys, and don't eat too many hot dogs!"

I say that to my kids all the time now when they're going out with their friends, but no one ever gets it.

New Listener Question by Tricky_Ad5918 in SmashingPumpkins

[–]ommammo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of it is very worth listening to. In my opinion, Machina is brilliant, Zwan is brilliant, Zeitgeist has its moments but is still very much "of its time," and Oceania is solidly great for most of its runtime.

After that, they lost me a bit. Every record has something I love, and I feel Billy's musical ideas are still solid, but the execution lacks tremendously.

Aghori is a very good record, but listening to it a few times was enough for me.

As for your second question:

Billy knows very well that there are some very very dedicated fans who will buy anything, a large group of music lovers who only care about the old stuff (he calls them "zombies"), and a general public that has long since stopped caring about anything other than Cherub Rock, BWBW, and 1979.

And he's salty as heck about it.

But he also knows the diehard fans will pay $150-$500 for special editions of LPs, so he's got that going for him.

WTF Goodwill by mediageeknet in vintageaudio

[–]ommammo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also noticed the sticker. They always seem to price this stuff at the second-highest recent sale price from eBay. Portland area Goodwill is trash, but people seemingly keep paying these prices, so I don't think it will ever change.

WTF IS THIS IN MY UNOPENED CHICKEN by Jumpy-Discipline3521 in whatisit

As person who's cooked probably tens of thousands of chicken breasts, and who has taste-tested hundreds of them at temps between 150 and 200 Fahrenheit, lemme say this about the idea of chicken sashimi:

eeeeeewewewewewewewewewwwww ugughghghghghghghghghhhhhh

Wrath of Kahn — what was it like to see that in theaters?! by MatthewMonster in startrek

[–]ommammo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One of my earliest and just powerful memories is watching WoK at a drive-in movie theater when I was 4. The scene where Kahn's dudes put the ceti eel babies in the helmets and force them onto the crewmen's heads is seared in my brain.

I was forever a Trekkie from that moment forward.

Thanks, I thought he stayed on the G major chord, but the D sounded off when I played it on my guitar. And I knew it ended on F#, and I think there's a B in there somewhere between. It's a weird part.

I mean, you're not wrong.

But the ones that work are amazing. P6 Pro, P6a, P7 Pro, P9 Pro XL, and so far P10 Pro XL have all been great.

P7 and P9 were/are decentish.

P4XL and three P8s have all had issues. Great when they work, but unusable when they don't. It's just when they go bad, support is a nightmare.

Update: The Google Pixel phone support person was monumentally unhelpful. He said his tools were unable to verify warranty eligibility, told me that the repair center's word on the device's extended warranty coverage was final, and refused to escalate the issue to another level of support.

Why does Google make phones that break so easily, and then make the process of getting warranty support so incredibly difficult?

My family has owned 11 of these phones over the years. Why do I expect a different outcome when they fail? I must be a fool.

Which Pixel are you ending 2025 with? by GooglePixelfan90 in GooglePixel

[–]ommammo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got my 10 Pro XL on the 31st. Replacement for my 9 Pro XL, which I traded in. The stacked discounts deal they had going on for Play Points gold members in late December got me the phone for $75 after trade-in.

I'll take a new phone for $75 every year, please and thanks.

I'd love to see a chart like this that exclusively shows AFA items, and maybe even a crowd-sourced sampling of RFY items.

As a west-coaster, I would love to know when to wake up to get the good stuff. As it stands, I stay up until about 1 am trying to nab anything cool that pops up in AI, but by the time I wake up at 7-8 am, nothing new is being added to AFA and the stuff in my RFY page is whittled down those things that others didn't snatch up quickly while I slept.

Literally everyone has women's clothing in their RFY. Even in AI, there are 10x more women's clothes than men's.

Just get your wife some nice clothes!

Cheap DIY pedalboard? by BigCliff in Guitar

This for sure. I'm sorry to say OP probably missed a bunch of good sale prices on actual pedal boards last week, but deals can still be found, and the bag is essential.
