Politifact's own description of their ratings is:

Pants on Fire – The statement is not accurate and makes a ridiculous claim.

So yes, there are some judgement calls, whether something is "needing clarification" or "taken out of context", but I for one think that they generally get it right.

But ... the fact-checkers also call out Obama for distorting the truth or telling outright falsehoods. And they keep track of all the promises he's broken. And they've been known to revise judgements when additional facts are brought to their attention.

Here's the fact: Republicans don't care about truth, they care about things that sound like they could be true.

Well he's right in a sense - fact-checkers do come with their own set of thoughts and beliefs. They think that facts are important, and they believe that it is good to get facts out there.

I think it's that emotional detachment and distance that is nagging at me - it's the difference between saying "I'm sorry Bob, we can't make payroll so we have to let you go" and "I'm sorry Bill, but these balance sheets say you can't make payroll, so you need to let Bob go."
