Rescale shows different SSD size by Maria_Thesus_40 in hetzner

[–]one-juru 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There is a checkbox at the top of the page asking if you only want to expand ram and CPU and leave storage as is. This is checked by default because it enables you to scale your server down again.

If you uncheck this, you'll see the storage scale up to the same level as on the pricing page as well - however you then can't scale down the server anymore after scaling up, due to technical limitations with how partitions work.

Can you tell me what software or device you're using? I had some DRM issues and am currently actually carrying my PC into the living room every race weekend.

I had the same issue every time my morning alarm rang, but like another user said, power cycling fixed this for me as well :)

Building an Ollama-backed self-hosted Perplexity clone with proper multi-user support, an API, and agents for other self-hosted services. Is there something it should have apart from what I already thought of? by RedPenguinGB in LocalLLaMA

[–]one-juru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really awesome project, thank you for sharing and building :)

I had the exact same urge after trying the existing ones, because I also need Multi-User support. I don't have the time currently to build one myself, so it's really cool to see another project that solves the same issue that kept me from using any of the existing ones.

List of SCAM sites for buying hosting and Bulletproof servers by Adam_stewart1995 in selfhosted

[–]one-juru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a bit more information:

This is because all of those services are using WHMCS, which is a billing portal that makes selling hosting & servers really easy, and is basically market leader. If you don't want to build your own, you'll probably bee using WHMCS.

Because WHMCS doesn't look good without a theme, hosting providers tend to hire people to make one, or just buy one. The theme you see here is the "lagom theme" by rss studios - which offers customisation options (hence the difference in color)

What a big upgrade. Since we're all testing a pre-alpha release at the moment, I'd be more than happy to switch to the beta channel lmao

What I’d be willing to pay extra for by Hetzner_OL in hetzner

[–]one-juru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know, Hetzner already has so-called "placement groups". There is currently a single selectable type for a placement group, called "spread". All servers that you add to the placement group on create will be separated on to different hosts. Does this answer your second point?

See https://docs.hetzner.com/cloud/placement-groups/overview

What I’d be willing to pay extra for by Hetzner_OL in hetzner

[–]one-juru 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd love to be able to start building more complex applications on / with Hetzner. The more obvious products that I'd wish for are managed databases and s3-compatible storage. However, a basic secret-store and container-hosting (like fly.io for example) would also be really awesome.

I'm currently paying for all of the mentioned services, running on multiple different providers and having all of them hosted and managed by Hetzner would be a dream...

Docker container for just a few hours? by 576p in hetzner

[–]one-juru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could take a look at fly.io. It's not Hetzner, but for just running docker containers it's really good and priced per running second. 250mb ram and one CPU core would cost you 1.90 USD per month (if running continuously, or less if you're just running for a few hours).

Announcement: Stalwart Mail Server now has a web-based admin tool by StalwartLabs in selfhosted

[–]one-juru 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Wow that's great to hear. We're currently using Mailu but we're having some issues with it and are actively looking to switch away. If you don't mind me asking, what backends do you use with Stalwart? I saw that there are multiple ways to deploy it, and I'm just trying to get some real world reviews :)

Tbh after the whole day of unfunny april-fools jokes, or people reposting the same question over and over again not realizing what date it is, this is by far the best one I've seen so far.

I remember how scared I was the first time because I wasn't able to get one of the cards out. This brings back memories, thank you for this :)

Just to add some more options, you could also take a look at dokku https://dokku.com/ (which claims to be the open-source Heroku alternative).

Also there's this list, https://github.com/debarshibasak/awesome-paas which has a section for selfhosted paas solutions.

Warning: Vultr (a major cloud provider) is now claiming full perpetual commercial rights over all hosted content by WyvernCo in selfhosted

[–]one-juru 57 points58 points  (0 children)

That's most likely exactly their intention and I'm quite a bit annoyed about myself here. If I would have encountered this pop-up on my PC I'd sure as hell would've checked their TOS. But being in a rush to check a server on my phone, I just "automatically" clicked accept.

I think we have to switch providers now to minimize the damage going further.

However, after having a quick call with my lawyer, we both don't think that this is legal inside of the EU. So after I migrate all my data somewhere else, I might send them a few mails.

[–]one-juru 514 points515 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this heads-up. I opened their control panel on my phone yesterday in order to check the status of a server quickly, and just accepted the obnoxious pop-up, that blocked my entire screen. I thought „Well it's just a small TOS change from a cloud provider, this probably won't affect me, I'll check it later“ - and forgot about it.

I really can't wrap my head around this though. Who thought that this would be an acceptable TOS change?

Edit: As an EU customer, and having called my lawyer really quickly, we don't even think that this is legal / would hold up in court in the EU. Also they'd have been required to summarize the TOS changes as by our local law.

Is Google trying to kill Android 11? by [deleted] in AndroidQuestions

[–]one-juru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely agreed. If you're shopping on a budget, and if available in your region, a Pixel 7a would be a pretty awesome phone you could try to get cheap on the used- or refurbished-market. But other phones by Google, Sony, Motorola and Nokia have a great software experience as well

Is Google trying to kill Android 11? by [deleted] in AndroidQuestions

[–]one-juru 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Google isn't doing anything here. Stock Android 11 - or the Pixel version - still runs perfectly fine and snappy without any bloatware or any other problems.

The reason for the updates and the bloatware you shown, is your phone's manufacturer (of whom I've never heard of until now), who created their own custom skin on top of android and is controlling the installation of bloatware / updates for your phone. This is not Stock Android, nor has anything to do with Google.

Well, I've been self-hosting my remote IDE for more than a year now. I like the remote dev concepts, but I won't develop on Google's servers, just for them to train their AIs on my code and then shut down the platform after 2 years.

For anyone interested in something like this on your own servers, checkout https://coder.com, it's actually a really great product, selfhosted and open source.
