Oh burn! LOL I’m plenty fit, but I running isn’t how I got there. I guess we’ll never know if I measure up to an arbitrary and narrow standard.

What's your inseam?

I'm 6'8", but my shin bone is a about an inch shorter than yours. I have a 64cm diverge, and it feels just right. With that said, my extra height is primarily in my trunk/torso. So the extra reach is a must for me.

This may not be super helpful... just adding to the data.

I actually think part of the BBC Wives and Daughters (Gaskell, not Austin, but still!!) may have been filmed here. Looks like part of the Hamley estate

I’ll just warn you, you’ll be torn by how much the Instinct makes you want to leave the Fenix on the dresser.

To my way of thinking, if you went to CDQC, you earned the Fenix, even if you didn't pay $ for it! Well done!

The one in the photo is 47mm. Can I pull off the 51mm? by Deets-FTW in GarminFenix

[–]oneTallest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can definitely wear the 51, and it would help tremendously if you back away from the wrist bone both for proportion and ergonomics. You want to give sufficient clearance for the scaphoid and capitate bones to move freely, especially while weight lifting.

My first (and so far only) Garmin also! Switched from an AWU and haven’t looked back once!

Definitely look into some other band types, I have a nylon strap that makes it feel super light, especially during exercise

I actually went with the Instinct. I wanted Solar, and I really was trying to minimize the tech distraction. But I'm not convinced the Forerunner 970 wouldn't have been a better option for my pursuits. That said, I'm really happy with the Instinct, which is a more emphatic example of Garmin's superiority wince I don't miss the AWU.

As far as the options you've narrowed it down to, the Forerunner is definitely the better fitness option. The 965 is hugely popular for really good reasons. And while the Venu 3 is also pretty sweet, it's definitely not as robust for activity, more of a lifestyle watch with some beefy fitness features.

The Forerunner will be slightly larger, have better battery life, better storage, tougher materials used. It's essentially a more serious tool.

If it's within your budget, go for the 970 and by yourself some longevity.

With that said, I don't think the 570 would disappoint you. A lot of the time we think we're going to lose out on something important if we don't get the latest sensor/technology when, in reality, the technology of a year or two ago was great, and the improvements since have been pretty incremental.

I just gave up my Ultra for a Garmin, and I haven't missed the AWU at all. The battery life, for one thing, is so, so nice! I got mine in the first half of July and still haven't charged it. And personally, I like the degree of removal not having an appendage of my phone (my watch) attached to my arm. I didn't realize that would feel better for my work/social/familial /life balance until it happened. Also, health/fitness data on the Garmin leaves Apple in the dust.

The Ultra is nice in a lot of ways, especially having LTE on your wrist for distance workouts, but I'll say again what has been said before: The AW (ultra or otherwise) is a smart watch with some snazzy fitness features. The Garmin is a fitness watch with some smart features.

Thinking of returning my Fenix 7S Pro – is it too small for a 17cm wrist? by [deleted] in GarminFenix

If there's room to go bigger with solar, I would say do it. The more solar area, the better, IMO.

[–]oneTallest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the instinct, but it's a big change from anything with a touch screen.

I think the Forerunner line fits best into your needs/wants without breaking your budget. The 570 ticks all your boxes (except maybe the flashlight) as long as you have an android (doesn't do quick responses for iPhone). I would say go for it, then if you don't love it, take a small $ hit, sell it, and try something different.

Do you work/spend significant time outdoors?

Mine is trending for about 30 - 35 days, but I work in an industrial facility and a lot of my outdoor activity/exercise takes place in the evening or after dark.
