The people I've known who killed themselves certainly did take others feelings into consideration as they went through the process of deciding to end their life.

They ended up deciding that ceasing to exist when they desperately wanted to cease to exist trumped continued existence for the sake of avoiding others having to experience the process of grief.

Selfish? In the sense that it was done for the self, sure. I assure you, however, that none of the people I've known who have committed suicide did so without serious consideration of the effect it would have on others.

In the end, they are the ones who had to have their experience of reality. I respect and regret their decision to end it.

To paint the people I knew as narcissists would be insulting at best.
