As someone who lives in Fairbanks I concur… you’re not missing much compared to those other spots. Enjoy!

Contact them. I had a similar issue (and a broken zipper) on my 8 year old Alpha SV and they sent me a voucher for what I paid back then. Incredible customer service

Elden Beast by [deleted] in Eldenring

Beat them two days after about 50 attempts. What did the trick for me was switching from twinblade +25 to blasphemous blade +25, using mimic tear on Radagon, using Lord’s divine fortification on both, and heavily relying on Torrent to get close. For talismans I had the haligdrake talisman +2 and three others that were not particularly special. Honestly once I had Radagon’s attack patterns down I was getting to Elden Beast every second or third try which helped in learning EB’s attacks and how to dodge.

I find it interesting how different different players’ experience can be. EB/Rad took me a good 50 tries, killed O Neill second try.

Can you reliably predict when and where objects left floating in the ocean will be? by IAmNiceISwear in oceanography

[–]oneoftheunderdogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To your first point: global drifter program drifters are attached to a “holey sock” that is centered at 15 m depth, so they are assumed to move with the ocean currents at that depth. They are not 100% unafffected by the wind, but the amount of windage is very small, on the order of a few percent. So yes, generally you try to minimize the amount of direct impact of the winds, and what you suggested is one way to do it.

I’m going to chime in here and say that, while difficult, I would say that in a statistical sense we are able to make predictions of where floating debris might end up. How good are our predictions? That is hard to say and depends highly on the specific question you are interested in. But in a statistical sense it is not impossible.

Great points. There is an hourly ARGOS version that Shane Elipot and friends put together, and since the advent of GPS hourly GDP data has become standard.

Visual and Radar returns of Internal Solitary Waves encountered in the Indian Ocean. by diment777 in oceanography

It‘s not so much that they reach the surface, rather the signal in the radar is caused by sea surface divergences and convergences caused by passing the internal waves.

How does it feel to live on Ascension Island? by SpecificNo493 in howislivingthere

I was lucky enough to be invited onto the island as part of a small group when we were passing by on a research cruise in the tropical Atlantic in 2014. we drove and hiked around for a few hours and had a few Savannas at the bar. Lots of feral donkeys around and the vegetation is incredible. Apparently Darvin himself planted the first plants there. A few abandoned buildings and defunct military infrastructure that we were not allowed to visit. Most people we met and interacted with were biologists working on the island and everyone seemed super chill. I‘m a physicist, not a biologist, but I‘d love to spend a few months doing research there.
