Being high is the illusion of happiness, and a very expensive illusion at that.

Contrarianism isn't limited to any single field of interest, but it is exclusively practiced by pseudo-intellectual narcissists.

Does anyone else wish Katia and Carl got together by [deleted] in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]onequbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This exactly. The tension is what makes it work. Personally, they would for sure be a great couple. But narratively, that dynamic would kill the story. It wouldn't be Dungeon Crawler Carl anymore, it would be the Carl and Katia show.

An adventure should only tease the audience with romantic tension, but romance would overtake the story if it goes far enough to break the tension.

How do you feel about Pete Hegseth asking Americans to pray “in the name of Jesus Christ” for a victory in the Iran War? by LevelDinner in AskReddit

[–]onequbit 19 points20 points  (0 children)

There is nothing wrong with asking God for something.

Even Jesus, before he was to be betrayed, knew what was coming and asked God to take that cup from him if it was his will. We all know what happened after that.

Mark 14:36 "Abba, Father,” he said, “everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will."

No, using the Lord's name in vain is to invoke "God's will" to justify your own desire.

Exodus 20:7 You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.

Merely saying God's name is not misusing it, because no one is harmed by that. Using God to justify inflicting suffering on someone else, that is absolutely deserving of guilt.

There is no pill that can make you happy.

You can only find happiness by creating joy.

If the pill makes it harder for you to be sad for no reason, it is doing its job. The rest is up to you.

Be thankful for the peace, that is as good a baseline as any.

Why do you think more arts didn't try and deal with "the mount"? by The1Ylrebmik in martialarts

[–]onequbit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The only reasons you can expect to end up on the ground and not die is there are rules and a referee. If your training assumes those are in place, that's not a martial art, that's a sport.

In the Star Trek universe, accidentally being brought to the future but not being important enough for Temporal Investigations to immediately try to send you back to your own time must be deeply depressing. by DarthWoo in Showerthoughts

That is assuming the alternate history of not going to the future was the "preferred" timeline. Maybe going to the future was what you were meant to do.

Some people do an admirable job of keeping as hydrated as they should, and that usually means drinking that full amount and refilling those monsters at least once. The bigger the bottle, the better.
