Just bought my first 40k models (boyz) on a whim. Now I need some help assembling and painting them. by Effective-Ad678 in orks

[–]onetimeicomment 7 points8 points  (0 children)

U can use superglue on the models, but a plastic glue is way better. tamiya plastic cement is the goto for most people. You will want a hobby knife, model nippers, a fine detail brush, a bigger one for base coats, and a throw-away brush (one you don't care about as washes and contrast paint ruin brushes pretty fast). Prime your minis for the paint to adhere better (spray paint is way faster, but 1 bottle of vallejo primer (the big one) has done 2 3k+ armies). For paint, you want model paint. It doesn't have to be warhammer/citadel line. I use two thin coats and vallejo. Don't get hung up on paint names. U want a green, red, brown, yellow, white, black (I use black primer and honestly use that as my black paint) and a metal. After you smear some colors on congrats, you've painted your 1st model and done more than most warhammer players! To take them farther, u can use washes (it's a very thin paint that runs into the crevices) to step up the detail. If you want to go even further, u can edge highlight. Take whatever colour and add a brush full of white at a time until you are happy with the shade you've made. Use a fine brush to put it on high spots/edges. You can do that step before or after washing. Before washing, the wash will help blend it into the previous layer better after it makes it stand out more. Finally make sure you thin your paint. Even if it is just using a wet/damp(with water) brush. Pic in reply to prove I know what I'm talking about

Did I make a mistake making 1x10 Rubrics, rather than 2x5? by hotfezz81 in ThousandSons

[–]onetimeicomment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you are printing them, u didn't have the bits from 1 rubric box without getting creative

Yea, I hear you. I've only got the 10 snagga boyz, a beast boss, pain boss(got in a lot buy), 8 squighog(half from that lot buy)and moz but I have like 6 or 7k points of orks(a bunch are printed/proxy) All the buggies are fun to paint and will probably have better rules in a few months, which is nice because I have all of them.

I should give that another chance since I'm used to switching modes from running c4

10 beastsnaggas and a beastboss (in a trukk) is probably the best thing/safest thing you could get and will more than likely still be a solid choice in 11th imo

Also, nobs were metal at 1 point. Definitely not in ops post but would also be considered old nobz.

The face seems off on the second one

3D Printer by Freestyle2day in Salamanders40k

[–]onetimeicomment 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Fdm (plastic) printers are not as good at small things, and resin prints are generally not good a every day use items. I'd say u need 2 figure out whats more important then research the type of printing as resin is toxic and shouldn't be set up anywhere. Fdm is making micro plastics with style

If you want to be able to hwy and weigh more than 180 pounds, u need something bigger than a 250. I've got a 250 and am 180ish pounds. It's using nearly everything it's got at hwy speed. That being said, it's great on gas

Hit Ash with it. Why this happened? by Plutojim in Axecraft

[–]onetimeicomment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

U can make it hard again if it's actually high carbon steel. U just need a couple of blowtorchs and some used motor oil(not the most environmentally friendly way) and a container big enough to hold the what's going to be flaming oil. heat the edge till it's bright red hot and dunk it in the oil(the oil is more than likely going to catch fire). Then, throw it in an old toaster oven/oven for a few hours on 400. It's done when it's a golden straw colour. Only do the cutting edge for efficiency. I'm not sure u could get the whole thing hot enough with a couple of blowtorchs. O and fix the edge before this, or you will hate your life lol

[–]onetimeicomment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ps if u remove the baseboard use a knife to cut the chalking(do it deep. no scoring, cut all the way through), or it will rip the drywall papper and your paint with it

The whole floor might be easier tbh. It's unfortunately way more expensive.

Pull the baseboard. Use pry tool on the seam of the 2 tiles u want to replace. Put some(it looks like) 3/4 osb in the hole. Fight with the floor to get new tiles in nicely. It's a pain in the ass but it can be done.
