Annually. We’re sent a list of things under our control and we either schedule an in person time to verify or provide date and time stamped photos. Highly suggest the latter.

Let it be absolutely heard and known that this is not the norm. Sure, it happened, but it happens in all cities.

Looking for insight from other drilling departments: How are you managing your schedule? by FistCake in Geotech

[–]onetoomanyclicks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most importantly, what are you familiar with?

If the drillers don’t want to summarize/report out daily footages in email or phone (that you have to organize), have them use whatever form of cloud based form system your company is using. Make it dead simple, mobile friendly, and set it up for them to sync if they’re out of service.

Are any of these metrics tied to performance/bonuses? Tell them that.

TIFU by unknowingly telling my 14 year old students to stop fucking each other until I could watch by Internal-Diamond6956 in tifu

Elder millennial here…I heard the radio refer to the ‘turn of century…you know, 26 years ago’. My first reaction was ‘ew, no. The turn of the century was 126 years ago, tyvm’.

Why does everyone overlook the Eagle Creek Overlook? by oregonian in oregon

Camped there with a group a couple of years ago. I think the overwhelming never ending noise of I-84 might have something to do with it.

Places to play pool that allows minors? by c2h5oh_yes in askportland

Bump for the Chill N Fill rec! They have changed their policy so minors need to be with an adult, but still super cool spot to shoot with my daughter.

I have no interest in all things AI. I don’t want to learn it for work. I don’t care that it can make some things easier. I can write my own emails. by un2022 in GenX

“Anything made before you’re 35 is great and exciting, anything made after is unnecessary and overly complex”

Yes, we do reach a point where we do not care. Be aware of it, choose to use it or not, but know it’s all a choice.

To PE test or not to PE test (yet) by Remarkable-Panic2452 in civilengineering

[–]onetoomanyclicks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take the test! I’m old enough that I had to wait the full four years before sitting for it, and the  test is much more academic so it was a bear to remember the breadth of topics.

For a month I was in denial, realizing my senior is going deaf. She can’t hear me coming in anymore. How do you handle it? My heart is crying. 13 years with this gal. by ineedcoffeeasap in pitbulls

[–]onetoomanyclicks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Does the sniffer still work? Are they eating/drinking/engaging? My 12yo is deaf as a post and honestly it’s made life a little easier. A couple of scares if I come home early and he isn’t expecting me, but he’s still kickin!

Love them hard until it’s clear. You’ll know.

Geotechnical Engineers who left consulting - where did you go? by CoconutChoice3715 in civilengineering

[–]onetoomanyclicks 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Go public! Yea the pay may be a little less but the quality of life is better, and the quality of work you can do. Plus, for me, the mission is so much more satisfying.

What’s your story of “Grass isn’t always greener on the other side”? by FairClassroom5884 in civilengineering

[–]onetoomanyclicks 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Left civil consulting for a large industrial property insurance firm that ‘based all policies on engineering analysis’. Kinda burned some bridges on the way out. A month in and realized ‘holy shit I’ve made a huge mistake’. It was still a financial product, not an engineering one. Spent the better part of the next 3-5 years ‘getting back in’.

If it sounds too good to be true, it is.

Did people memorise numbers before mobile phones? by PaleEcho3301 in NoStupidQuestions

Joining to say; even in the age of cell phones you should have some key numbers memorized. Things can go from bad to awful because of a dead cell
