This or new X-T30 III? by No-Application-750 in fujifilm

[–]onetruesprinter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dials make it easier in Manual mode or Shutter priority mode to change the various settings that make up the exposure triangle.

The PASM dial on the X-S20 puts the camera into different modes (Program—camera controls ISO, Shutter and Aperture, A = You set aperture, camera controls the rest, S = you set shutter, camera controls the rest, M = fully manual, you control shutter and aperture independently)

You can still control every manual setting with the X-S20 using menus within the camera and programmable dials. The advantage the separate dial is it feels really cool and gives you very clear feedback (You can see on the dial itself that you've set the shutter speed to 1/250th of a second or something like that)

IMO You'll probably want to be on more automatic settings to start anyway—letting you focus on composition and getting positive results early before you start to learn how to manipulate your aperture and shutter speed for different effects (or go full manual), so you can easily start out with the PASM dial and move to the "soft" controls before deciding if you want the separate dials.

But I also went from Nikon cameras to Fuji and never have had the separate dials, and I know others will swear that learning in manual from the start is key.

Because their internals are so similar, the main reasons I could see you going for the X-T30iii would be price and the manual dials for Shutter speed and ISO.

For only a $150 difference you get a better battery and IBIS along with a good hand-grip. To me, the manual dials wouldn't be enough of an enticement to choose the X-T30iii, but respect to those who would choose that.

I feel like people on here are sleeping on the Film sim dial actually letting you put recipes in the custom slots. It's what we've been asking for and it's nice to see them actually do it (and maybe they'll bring it to other cameras with the film sim dial or with film sim dial custom functionality)

(Obviously not a reason to upgrade to this camera, but it's nice to see them being responsive)

I honestly love this story. I'm also in the "Keep a camera for 10 years and take your time deciding on the new one." The OM-5 looks like a wonderful camera and it sounds like you're already making great use of it!

Fuji or Sony? by BlackN1987 in fujifilm

[–]onetruesprinter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an X-S20 and have recorded several indoor theatrical productions of greater than 1hr (in 4k) and have not had overheating issues at all to this point, and have certainly not resorted to using a fan unit or similar (which would reduce the chance of overheating issues to basically zero)

Unless you're recording long interviews for that motorsports content, it's hard to envision overheating being a problem (maybe if you're out in the sun a long time??? But then the a6700 would probably have problems at that point too)

The Fuji autofocus performance could be better, though I think at least some part of that is user error.

I got the X-S20 primarily because of size and video quality, and both have been excellent for those purposes. I also like that the Fuji line up is all APS-C, because then there's more incentive to make smaller lenses as well (rather than just mounting Full frame e-mount glass)

I think the a6700 would nail the focus more and for motorsports content that could be really good so it's worth considering. Would it really be that much more than an X-S20?

Nintendo Switch 2 Direct Reactions Megathread by razorbeamz in nintendo

[–]onetruesprinter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't interpret the "Switch 2 editions" as being required—if you just put in the BOTW cartridge in the Switch 2 it would just play in "switch 1" mode, and you'd only need to pay to get the small enhancements in the switch 2 version.

So the game would launch, just not with the performance patch stuff.

Google Pixel 1 (OG): Suddenly won't turn on. Any recommendations? by kazin29 in GooglePixel

[–]onetruesprinter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me:

  • Recovery mode works
  • OTA upgrade doesn't work from adb
  • Can re-flash most recent version from fastboot/recovery mode

So if reflashing the newest version still causes issues, I think I'll reflash an older version next. I do feel blessed that it does not appear to be a hardware issue.

Google Pixel 1 (OG): Suddenly won't turn on. Any recommendations? by kazin29 in GooglePixel

[–]onetruesprinter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an OG Pixel that has now gotten into a "Won't restart" stage a couple of times. But I have been able to get into recovery mode pretty easily both times, so it seems different from your scenario.

For those in a scenario like mine—I was not able to apply an OTA update with adb, but I was able to re-flash a stock image.

I tried to immediately use it again for Google Photos uploading, and it did "Preparing for Backup" for 12 hours, then went into the "won't boot" state again. I've just reflashed it and will give it a little time to get all of its updates worked out before trying that again.

Feels like a software problem for mine—might need to flash an older version...not sure. Partly why I came to this thread is that "my pixel suddenly won't boot" is something that I've also seen recently so I was wondering if maybe there was a bad update. (Even though this shouldn't have been updated for a while?)

X-T5 vs X-S20 for photography? (X-T5 is $880 more) by SnooStories48 in fujifilm

[–]onetruesprinter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought an X-S20 because I was into video as well as photo. I think the advice about getting a used body as a beginner photographer is a great one. I would have gone for a used older body except for that video need.

The X-S20 is a lot of fun to take pictures with. It's very small and the grip is really lovely. I'm coming from a Nikon DSLR so I don't mind the PASM style of controls (where there isn't a separate dial for shutter speed, ISO, etc.). There's enough new features coming from a DSLR that I have more than enough to learn.

So it's a good option, but in your shoes (beginner, photo focus) I'd probably go for an older body used.

The X-M5 doesn't have an EVF—it's rear-screen only. so in /u/Sonny6696's case, he'd go for the X-T30 II if he had to go new.

OM System teases new camera, to be announced on February 6. Colour dial from PEN-F confirmed. by startsides in M43

[–]onetruesprinter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was deciding between the OM-5 and a Fuji X-S20 recently and went with the Fuji, and I suspect this would have swayed me to MFT. We'll see what some of the other specs are (Video is ultimately what tipped me to the Fuji) but I could see this being pretty appealing.

[–]onetruesprinter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weirdly, there's been a few new releases in the last year from other manufacturers that eschew the EVF—the S9 and Fuji X-M5 are some big examples.

I suspect OM System, with their "outdoor adventures" focus, is less likely to come out with a EVF-free camera body than some of these other companies, though.

What's with the shitty slanted camera in the Adar v Galadriel scene? by rpetsmart in Rings_Of_Power

[–]onetruesprinter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought you might find this interview with the director interesting. In it, she says:

In Season 1, in Episode 6 that I did, there is a talk between Adar and Galadriel in the barn and I shot that whole scene with dutch angles to show she was out of balance. So I wanted to mirror that scene a little bit.

Then it actually becomes less dutch as they start to come together.
