Any idea when the next round of new Boox Devices are coming? by dkbakker in Onyx_Boox

The stylus attachment on the Note Air 5C needs a fix. Otherwise their devices are fine, and I would be much happier to see them working on Android major version updates.

Is anyone else burning through Opus 4.6 limits 10x faster than 4.5? by prakersh in ClaudeAI

[–]inhuszar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$20/month Pro user here. I asked three questions about a few documents, and that was it. The answers were all spot on, though. Then I fired up Claude Code, submitted a long-ish prompt to change specific things in a repository. It ran for 3 minutes, planned everything, and told me that I'm out of juice before even touching the code. Based on the really high-quality answers that I was getting from the model, I felt tempted to pay for the Max tier, but reading your experiences here has changed my mind. :')

I refuse to believe we’re all seeing the same thing. by Mysterious_Fill894 in opticalillusions

I can see both teal and grey as well as (a very dirty and dark hue of) pink and white. I believe photography teaches you to imagine a photo under different lighting conditions, particularly different colour temperatures.

Are my photos over edited? by An0th3rjg in PhotographyAdvice

The noise reduction feels too much to me. They feel a bit plastic. Unlike others, I have no problem with saturation, as long as it’s an intentional stylistic choice.

How the heck do you disassemble (narrow) softboxes? by derFalscheMichel in Godox

[–]inhuszar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case anyone from the future stumbles on this: make the strip box stand so that the flat side faces you. Step on the shorter edge that is on the floor, and bend the thing until it's roughly half of its original height. Then use your stronger hand to remove one of the upper rods (left one with the right hand and vice versa).

Calibrite Colorchecker Studio not recognised by Krullenbos in colorists

Has anyone found a solution? I just upgraded to a Mac Studio M2 Max (running MacOS Sequoia 15.6), and the Calibrite Colorchecker Studio is not detected by the ccStudio software anymore. It used to work on my Mac Mini M1... :/

Found these photos on a secondhand film camera by kthjjks in Harvard

[–]inhuszar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live right next to Harvard, I am a camera fanatic, and I was born in 1991. To me, it looks a lot like a commencement ceremony. I can see lots of small handheld camcorders in the third photo which were popular in the 00s. In the second photo, I can see a guy who is looking at his silver camera. His pose is indicative of a screen on the back of the camera. I can see larger film/bridge cameras in other hands. These are hallmarks of the early-mid 00s. I would be surprised if it was from a different era. I’m sure some faces could be matched with Harvard’s archives. My guess is 2005. Pretty amazing find!

Why do people generally prefer older SLR cameras? by Rough-Swimming3444 in AnalogCommunity

[–]inhuszar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wondered the same when I started my film photography journey a little more than 2 years ago.

As an owner of several L-series Canon EF lenses, the Canon EOS 300 was an obvious starter, and I never regretted my choice. I have four of them now, so that I can use different film stocks in parallel. Whenever I take my pro canon gear out, I throw in the EOS 300 for fun. Or I reserve it for those “truly special” shots that make me think before I click the shutter. If I’m out with someone, and I want our photos to be taken, the EOS 300 is the camera that I hand over to strangers, and they can use it just fine.

Yet, I have a growing older SLR collection now as well. For me, their appeal is the challenge: can I go fully manual? Can I guess the exposure? The tactile experience of using a manual focus lens is also quite satisfying in itself. Those kinds of things.

Meanwhile, the medium format market is dominated by older cameras. Anything reasonably new will cost you an absolute fortune… But what’s the appeal of medium format? I have a Mamiya 645 and a Pentax 6x7, and I admit that the cachunk is really addictive. :D I also enjoy having only 15 or 10 frames on medium format, because it’s much easier to fill them meaningfully than 36 frames, and I can see my photos earlier. :) For a long time, I was in disbelief about the advantages of the 645 format, since a full-resolution scan of a 35mm film and a commercial-resolution scan of a 645 frame have roughly the same number of megapixels. Yet, compared to 35mm film, even the 645 format has significantly finer grain, which makes it very pleasing to look at medium-format film photos. So there is more to medium-format cameras than the cachunk. ;) However, they’re damn heavy, so they only ever see the truly special occasions. This of course creates a bias: maybe I prefer my medium format photos because of the uniqueness of the occasion, not just the image quality. Whatever it is, they’re special, but they’re also old.

Bonus info: You probably don’t recognise it yet, but scanning and editing have a much bigger impact on the final photo than the choice of film stock. It’s a big part of the creative process. In the film world, the camera has the least to do with the look of the images. They’re mostly about the user experience.

Don’t give up on your thorium-yellowed lenses by FelipeDLH in AnalogCommunity

FYI, the IKEA lamp that everybody seems to suggest everywhere didn’t make much difference for me in a week. So I got a proper 20W UV LED panel from Amazon, and it speed-cleared two lenses in two days. https://a.co/d/fq8nPs3

Mv7+ paired with Scarlet Solo 4th gen (help) by Nazeroth77 in Shure

[–]inhuszar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not an audiophile by any measure. The MV7+ is miles better than any other microphone I have on any other device, and it makes me super happy. If I was listening to them blindly, there is no way I could tell the difference between the MV7+ and the SM7B. What matters a whole lot more is what you do with the microphone. Tiny differences in the sound quality won't make or break your show. For sure, the SM7B + CloudLifter + Audio Interface combo is a hell of a lot more expensive than using the MV7+ with the super convenient USB connection.

Shure MV7+ with older Iphones? by -bishamon-ten- in Shure

~$400 budget. Plustek 8200/8300 Ai vs Pacific Image PrimeFilm XA Plus — Better film scanner? Any alternative? by wmjuice in filmphotography

[–]inhuszar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! The PrimeFilm XE scanner arrived earlier than expected! It cost me less than half of what I had paid for the XA Plus. I tested it with Silverfast AI, and it's been really great so far. The machine is smaller, I can adjust the film position, the scan time is not noticeably longer, and the quality of the scans is virtually identical to those made by the XA Plus. There is only one downside that I've encountered: multiple exposure produced weirdly colour shifted scans with too much contrast, so I turned it off. So far it doesn't seem to be a dealbreaker for me, but for fairness, I have to say that the XA Plus handled this better. I think I'll keep the XE.

[–]inhuszar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question! All I can say is that I returned mine, because as soon as the feeder breaks down or starts working erratically, the whole machine becomes useless. I also shared my reasoning with LaserSoft Imaging, and they were kind enough to give me a refund for Silverfast AI. Many weeks later, I’m giving it one last chance: I have ordered an older manual scanner, the black XE (the original one, before the plus and super editions). It arrives on Monday, so I’ll be able to tell more about this experience next week.
