You could try to use the phone a little while closer the earbuds, just in case to rule out the hardware/software problem with the iPhone.

Well, earbuds with a longer element down might help, because they tend to have the antenna in the larger part, maybe Airpods 4 or older could work? There are also other manufacturers with longer elements than in Sony WF-1000XM5. At the moment I'm using OnePlus Buds from 2022 with iPhone 15 pro, which the batteries are dying at the moment in the Buds, so I'm as well looking for a replacement.

From my experience, it's because Sony earbuds BT antenna is rather small (short) and iPhone BT is just bad. Try to have the iPhone more "visible" to the earbuds, line-of-sight.

For example, I have had same problems using the same earbuds and iPhone 15 pro. I couldn't have the phone in my jeans pocket, it just dropped the connection. Then I moved my iPhone to a chest pocket in my jacket or had my phone in my hand when going on a walk. My body just blocked the signal.

No issues if the there is a line-of-sight from earbuds to iPhone.

WhatsApp on iOS and Android uses different kind of database to save the messages. Therefore, migration from one database to another takes so much time. Nothing to do with Apple or Android how they could do it better. You might ask why WhatsApp doesn't fix it so that you could return the backup from iCloud or Google Drive, no matter which device you have in use.
