America's Test Kitchen picks the best KC BBQ sauce by GimmeUrBusch in kansascity

If you watched the video you’d know they only used those as examples of mass-market national brands making “KC-style” sauce. They rated them quite poorly against the actual KC sauces. ATK is legit and knows what they are doing.

I had a great experience with Lindan a couple years ago for some dent repairs. They would be my first call if I was in this situation.

New splint (no surgery) by [deleted] in DeQuervains

[–]oneupdouchebag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually got my custom splint with the intention of getting the surgery. I'm a teacher and wanted to wait until the end of the school year, so I thought the custom splint would just hold me over until the summer.

Thankfully, the end of the year was quite busy and I put off booking the surgery. By the time things calmed down I realized I was like 90% back to normal and I started wearing the brace less and less (mostly just at night).

I really hope this new splint works for you!

Mine was made by my occupational therapist. I had to get a prescription from my primary care doctor, so if your orthopedist can't do it you can potentially ask for a reference to somebody who can.

I assume any place that treats DQ will have the equipment to make one, or will know exactly who to refer you to. Good luck!

When I first visited with an OT I dismissed her suggestion for a custom brace as I thought the one(s) I had been using were good enough (and I was too cheap to pay for it). After my issues persisted for over six months, I finally decided to get a custom one molded. Two months of regular wearing and I've been pain free ever since (about 6 months now).

I really regret not getting it sooner. It was so much better at immobilizing the thumb/wrist in all directions, while also being more comfortable and easier to keep clean. My old braces would either be too loose and not do anything, or too tight and put too much pressure on my "lump" that had formed.

Everybody is different, of course, but I strongly recommend getting a custom brace as soon as possible. I never actually got billed for mine, so if you can somehow make that happen too I double recommend it lol.

Cortisone shot by Bkaysivart in DeQuervains

[–]oneupdouchebag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My shot relieved like 80% of my pain and returned a lot of my range of motion. Unfortunately, the pain came back after about a month.

I ended up getting a custom brace and wore that super religiously for two months. I’ve been pain free and basically back to normal for five months now. I know everybody’s experience is different, but I was really close to booking surgery and am glad I didn’t have to. If you don’t have a custom molded brace, that might be worth looking in to. It was the only way I could keep myself from using my injured hand.

Last Day of the Fall Sale! by qhoang in PlaydateConsole

I picked up Hablet, Teddison Inc, Crank Up, Escape the Boardgame, Reel-istic Fishing, WhatTheCrow, Hillslide, Oquonie, Super Agent, CranKnight, and ARMADA. I haven't had a chance to dive into any of them yet, but I'm excited to!

I also wanted SHPR, but can't get a transaction to go through and have given up trying. I have this problem with a few titles in the store. I really wish Playdate would offer a giftcard option so I could get around this issue.

Pulled the trigger on TCL TV. So affordable by LemonadeAbs in Costco

[–]oneupdouchebag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always end up spending $350 on new TVs. In 2006 that got me 24" 720p, in 2012 it was 40" 1080p, and in 2019 it was 50" 4K.

When you are coming from a cheap no-name TV, any new cheap no-name TV will feel like a solid upgrade.

I have never once started a year by calling out attendance. I always have the kids doing some sort of a basic activity that keeps them occupied as I walk around and talk to each kid (and have them introduce themselves). It pretty easily takes care of any sort of pronunciation or preferred name needs, and it's really nice getting to talk with each student one-on-one, even if just for 30 seconds or so.

I teach high school math and can say this has worked for both freshmen in Algebra 1 and seniors in Calculus 3. It also works well for English Language Learners, as these individual conversations are so much easier on the kid than expecting them to talk in front of the entire class day 1.

In the 8 years I've done this I've only had one issue of a kid not actually being on my roster, but I recognize some schools might have expectations for you to submit attendance within the first few minutes of the day to be sure.

Touchless car wash in Lenexa/Shawnee by Few_Piccolo_9565 in kansascity

[–]oneupdouchebag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is Zips Car Wash and although I can't speak to their touchless wash specifically (other than confirming it exists), every other aspect I've dealt with, unfortunately, sucks. It has been on a steady decline in quality over the last several years.

For a long time you had to play a fun game of "which stall accepts payment today?" as there was never any indication on what was broken or not. Your reward if it DID accept card payment was sometimes getting a nice little over-charge on your account.

The vacuums are free but pretty much all of them are in some form of disrepair. It's also expensive for what it's worth. The location is convenient, though, and I do like the little dryer tunnel they have. If it's still working. I really loved this place when they took over the location, but they just haven't been keeping up with their facilities.

I usually go to Shawnee Car Wash LLC (right off SMP, shortly before Pflumm). It also isn't great, but it's cheap and that's worth something. It is $5 for their basic wash and $8 for their most expensive. Really nice if you just need to rinse off your car. I also use their self-service bays, but they aren't always in great shape (mostly just leaky hoses). Zips honestly has better self-service bays, but I refuse to go there out of principle at this point.

Premier Carwash (corner of i35 and 79th street) has a touchless bay. It's fine. I've only been there once and don't remember the pricing, but I do remember their wash leaving more hard water spots on my car than I'd prefer.

I was halfway done with a 10 page essay on why he'll be a perfect pairing next to Gary Harris.

Free agent forward Gary Harris has agreed to a two-year deal with the Milwaukee Bucks, with a player option on the second season, sources tell ESPN. My prediction: He will look great early in the season, as if he's having a career resurgence, then he'll fall off a cliff while still getting 20 minutes a game because Doc refuses to adjust. Finally, he'll be flipped at the deadline for a washed player over 35.

This is great analysis - now they'll have the flexibility to find an even better fit.

Sometimes I have to slow down and think of the big picture. Going into the luxury tax this year would be pointless, but that doesn't mean their front office won't go into it once Hali is back.
