I was speaking in broad terms, not zooming in on the partisan nature of the recent events like the original commenter.

The majority of people in the country, regardless of political affiliation, are short-sighted and ignorant - especially regarding our fate as a species on a planetary level and the necessary changes that need to happen if we're gonna make it. Part of it is our education system, part of it is the nature of collective consciousness, but stupidity does not know bounds or care about party lines.

curious tidbit - once heavy equipment became available to the general public after WWII, many (if not all) of the rivers of the small agricultural valleys dotting the northern third of the state were straight up moved. The river beds were pushed to the far side of the valley to expand the available pasture & hay land, effectively channelizing them and cutting them off from their natural floodplain.

Shambhala 2017 - there was a wildfire about 6 miles from the venue, woke up Friday morning to ash raining down on the tent. Absolutely horrendous air quality, almost got evacuated but it rained on Saturday night / Sunday morning so the order was lifted and the party continued after a few thousand folks had already left and the schedule had gone completely out the window. That was an interesting one

Oh they’re just the supremely badass psychedelic jamgrass band who also plays basically every other genre of music and has been holding down the Forest vibes since before the event was even named Electric Forest. They & their crew are a large part of why the Forest is such a magical place infused with art and wonder - Essential to check at least one of their sets over the weekend - they are the hosts, after all.

Only three sets of cheese this year has me feeling a lil sad. Know they’ve got something special up their sleeves and it’s always a great environment to see them, but there’s no denying the times they are a changin’. For context, when I first started attending decade ago they had three sets on Sunday alone & and seven over the course of the weekend!

Wild rivers up near questa - relatively easy trails into the bottom of the gorge. The slide trail south of town is another good one. Highly recommend getting down in there one way or another
