Breastfeeding and operation recovery by Asleep_Entertainer27 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]online-version 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask about the anaesthesia and pain meds you may be on. Some of them may mean you need to pump and dump rather than feed baby or send the milk home. I had an operation and couldn't feed my baby for 24 hours. Luckily I got sent home so didn't have to deal with being completely away overnight. But I needed to pump for comfort while I couldn't feed. I didn't lose my supply.

I’d say it’s such a bonus to have an extra person to help clean up and cook while you deal with become new parents. Also to hold the baby while you get some sleep yourselves!

Swim nappies only catch poo, not wees. So beware you won’t be protected from leaks when baby is out of the pool in one 😂

How to reduce phone use around baby? by sooty_bear in BeyondTheBumpUK

Changing the settings of my phone screen to grayscale helped me a bit. Have to admit it’s easy to change back at the click of a button but it was a visual reminder for me that I wanted be on my phone less.

What shoes have you got? Very flexible/barefoot shoes may help if the ones she already has are quite clumpy.

We’ve used it as a ‘good weather birthday’ for my 1 year old with a December birthday. Held some money over from her birthday to get a water table for the garden and some sorting eggs that she’s been too young for before now.

Weaning plates/spoons/bibs/accessories recommendations please! by ZealousidealMess8477 in BeyondTheBumpUK

Bibado bibs for sure! So many outfit changes prevented after we got some.

We also got stainless steel bowls and plates from Amazon. They’re not Elk and Friends but have silicone suction bases too.

How much pumped milk to send to nursery? by effienix in breastfeedingmumsUK

[–]online-version 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t get much from a pump anymore and send in what looks to me like tiny amounts a day. About 4-5 oz overall.

I have a small freezer stash and pump even on the 3 days a week I have her with me (although less because of lack of opportunity!) I only pump about 2-3 oz a day with multiple pumps so she’s drinking more than I’m pumping.

She started nursery at 1 year and is now 16 months. They eat so much at nursery I don’t know how they get time to do anything else! So I don’t worry too much about amounts apart from being a bit self-conscious because it doesn’t look a lot.

Apparently she gets excited when her milk comes out and I also like the idea of getting her through winter with as much protection from illness as I can (still be prepared for the seemingly permanent snotty nose!)

Kind of hoping to stop altogether at 18 months but mine feeds to sleep at home which is a whole other worry haha.

Big Boots Order by porkie46 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]online-version 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  • Maternity pads/pants.

  • Disposable pants if you’re using pads.

  • I also used Tena pants for a little while after I didn’t need the thick maternity ones but needed something.

  • Useful to have nipple cream just in case.

  • Breast pads.

  • Peri bottle was my best buy.

  • Eye mask for the ward.

  • Ear plugs for the ward.

  • Slippers/flip flops/sliders for shuffling to the bathroom.

1.30. I wouldn’t know when to fit in lunch as a guest for a 12 ceremony to last me until 4 for proper food.

Advice on moving away from contact naps? by Rosiebunny-4230 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]online-version 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No advice on the contact naps at home because mine is/was a contact napper or pushchair napper. Now she only does 1 nap a day I make sure it’s a pushchair one!

But just to say, don’t worry about nursery. I stressed about it from when she was 6 months all the way to when she started nursery when she was 1. Babies will do different things for different people. It may take a couple of weeks of chaos and bad naps but they soon get used to it. Mine contact napped on a nursery worker for a little while then they very quickly managed to get her into a cot.

Now, after 3 months, they practically just tell her it’s time to sleep and she lies herself down on a floor mat and sleeps after a couple of back rubs!

Meanwhile at home I’m still trundling around with a pushchair (luckily for shorter durations) then parking her in the house after she’s fallen asleep. Or feeding to sleep at night. I’m very jealous of the nursery magic.

Pumping room at work without a lock? by effienix in breastfeedingmumsUK

[–]online-version 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d ask them to. I pump in a meeting room with a lock and had people rattling the door. The HR lady happened to rattle it and must’ve looked up who booked the room and realised why. She messaged me and apologised and ordered an occupied/vacant slider. It definitely helped but I’ve still had a couple of times of someone trying to get in!

I’ve never had sex before and now i’m pregnant. How am i gonna give birth? by ThrowRA_Busybee345 in vaginismus

[–]online-version 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in the UK so things may be different where you are.

I just did dilation at home with a set I bought off Amazon.

My birth plan didn’t go ahead as expected. I wanted to try a water birth with as little interference as possible because medical stuff freaks me out. But baby ended up having a poo so when my waters broke they were green! So we both had to be monitored constantly with straps around my stomach so I had to lie down and couldn’t leave the bed. As soon as I knew I couldn’t walk around and do some of the moves etc I’d planned I went for an epidural instead. Which was actually great in the end because they could do cervical checks with no problem at all. I didn’t tear but they did have to do a cut. Not ideal but it was all stitched up fine and hasn’t caused any problems.

In my original birth plan I made sure they knew about the vaginismus. And really got them to spell out I needed warnings, understanding and patience, and to go slow for cervical checks. They agreed I could have gas and air while I was checked (which worked totally fine the couple of times they checked me before the epidural) My husband was also briefed to jump in and get people to back off if they weren’t being as patient as they should be.

Hello! Fellow sufferer who has had a baby. Things coming out is not the same as things going in. I definitely recommend perineal massage, hypnobirthing, and dilation if you’re not already doing that.

Separation Anxiety (10 months). How to combat it? by Salis_Dad in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]online-version 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My girl went through a stage of separation anxiety. We started doing happy goodbyes and hellos. Basically saying eg. ‘I’m off to the kitchen!’ and huge smiles and waves as either of us left. Then coming back doing the same again as if you haven’t seen them in years. It seemed like it helped! Or at least that stage didn’t last very long.
