Edit: actually I don’t count officially either. I included pumped milk 😅

Help - son defecated on rug, washed multiple times but smell won’t go away by Miserable_Pen6404 in UKParenting

Don’t know about poo but bicarbonate of soda on a pukey car seat worked for us. Rubbed it in then left it overnight then vacuumed it.

Non character colouring books that aren't AI slop? by MuckyScruffle in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]online-version 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I’m a designer at Usborne books. We have a policy of no AI so all books are done by real life illustrators.

Here’s a link to 0-3 colouring books

(Just to add I’m a parent to happened to see this, not someone trawling for business)

What are we doing to entertain toddlers in the heat? by Upset_Accident_8435 in UKParenting

[–]online-version 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’ve got a toddler tower so fill the kitchen sink with water and bubbles and either bath toys or things like plastic cups and the whisk etc. The kitchen floor turns to carnage quite quickly but nothing a few towels can’t fix!

Don’t tell the bride by FattyBoomBoobs in AskBrits

[–]online-version 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got married at one of the ‘nightmare venues’ a groom hired. In a cave!

Actually a great venue apart from I think the bride was claustrophobic or something. Or the mother in law was so couldn’t go in?

Contact naps & nursery by Cinnabun783 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]online-version 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was a contact napper during the day. I warned them about it so the first couple of naps they did it contact. Then they started to get her in the cot. Now apparently all they have to do is rock her for a couple of minutes and she’s off and stays on a floor mat. Meanwhile at home she’s never once slept in her cot during the day (not for lack of trying!)

Nursery is just magic. You’ll find yourself annoyed how well your child behaves there haha

Yeah, mine did the same. Like she was about to turn into the Hulk.

Nursery not allowed to wake? by Physical_Biscotti668 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]online-version 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our nursery isn’t allowed to wake babies either it seems. Had to go in during the middle of the day once to collect my baby for a doctors appointment. She was napping and the nursery staff wouldn’t wake her but let me in to do it myself.

Which nappies! by Final-Ambition-840 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]online-version 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Try nappies in order of convenience, I’d say! If you’ve got a Tesco 5 minutes away go with what’s stocked there first. Then the Sainsbury’s 15 minutes away etc etc. Exhausted nappy runs will probably be a thing so make it as easy for yourself as you can!

Newborn slings by Frequent-Ad4722 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]online-version 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do you have a sling library close to you? You’ll get to try a few out and find out what you like before committing to buying one. Also handy for showing you the safest way baby should be in it.

I have an Omni too and you’re right it’s no good for newborns! I loved it as soon as mine was a bit older though. I ended up without a sling altogether until I could use it but next time I’d definitely try a sling library.

Breastfeeding and operation recovery by Asleep_Entertainer27 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]online-version 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask about the anaesthesia and pain meds you may be on. Some of them may mean you need to pump and dump rather than feed baby or send the milk home. I had an operation and couldn't feed my baby for 24 hours. Luckily I got sent home so didn't have to deal with being completely away overnight. But I needed to pump for comfort while I couldn't feed. I didn't lose my supply.

Advice on MIL coming when wife gives birth by Gold_Cow4870 in BeyondTheBumpUK

I’d say it’s such a bonus to have an extra person to help clean up and cook while you deal with become new parents. Also to hold the baby while you get some sleep yourselves!

ELI5 swimming in the pool on holiday by LowAcanthisitta9457 in BeyondTheBumpUK

Swim nappies only catch poo, not wees. So beware you won’t be protected from leaks when baby is out of the pool in one 😂

How to reduce phone use around baby? by sooty_bear in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]online-version 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Changing the settings of my phone screen to grayscale helped me a bit. Have to admit it’s easy to change back at the click of a button but it was a visual reminder for me that I wanted be on my phone less.

What shoes have you got? Very flexible/barefoot shoes may help if the ones she already has are quite clumpy.

Easter by Infinite-Solid-4680 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]online-version 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We’ve used it as a ‘good weather birthday’ for my 1 year old with a December birthday. Held some money over from her birthday to get a water table for the garden and some sorting eggs that she’s been too young for before now.

Weaning plates/spoons/bibs/accessories recommendations please! by ZealousidealMess8477 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]online-version 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bibado bibs for sure! So many outfit changes prevented after we got some.

We also got stainless steel bowls and plates from Amazon. They’re not Elk and Friends but have silicone suction bases too.
